The Calhoun Honor's College needs to change names when...

Washington DC's name is changed. This is our nations capital that is named after a slave holder (Just as John C Calhoun was). When that happens I feel we should follow suite.

Can you tell me what Calhoun did that Clemson should put his name on the Honors College? Thanks in advance.

Giving a TD isn’t answering the question. HTH

It's his land that Clemson was built on...

He was not just the Vice President of the United States of America under two different administrations, but also a US Congressman, Senator, the Secretary of War, and Secretary of State. Arguably he's the most prominent Statesman from our state. Strom Thurmond was just as racist over 100 years later.

Never bring facts into an argument with a liberal. Somewhere a Dollar General is being raided by one because of you

Just saying Its essentially like saying George Washington...

Should be stricken from Mount Vernon. Or UVA should take Thomas Jefferson off everything on campus.

I’m no liberal. Calhoun’s only contribution to the school is that he owned the land half a century before the school was founded. That’s it.

Being a VP, senator, etc is nice but has nothing to do with the school.

Except the fact that his land ultimately became Clemson University

and his house still stands on campus.

Oh yeah, and his daughter married Thomas Green Clemson.

Other than that, he had nothing to do with it.

Anna has a lot to do with it. Her dad didn’t. I would be all for Calhoun Honors College if it was named for Anna.

Why don’t we have any Honors for the Native Americans that lived in the land before Calhoun? It was their land too.

It’s like saying I should put up a plaque in my business for my father in law. Without him I wouldn’t have married my wife and wouldn’t have my business.

Ok...Rename it the Anna Calhoun Honor's College...

No one is trying to erase history! I can guarantee you that no one will let anyone forget that slavery happened. Can we not at least agree that there exists better candidates which we could names the honors college after?

Should have changed the name LONG ago

The man was a slave owner, and very proud of it. We should not be honoring him.
