Retail stores CLOSED until further notice
Mar 16, 2020, 1:44 PM
[ in reply to Palmetto State was closed this morning ] |
|
FROM THEIR FACEPAGE
Palmetto State Armory - Greenville 15 hrs ·
Following the declaration of a State of Emergency from Governor McMaster and the subsequent closing of many schools around the state, we have made the decision to close all Palmetto State Armory retail locations until further notice.
Each store will be closed with the exception of a small window of time each week to accommodate the pick up of orders placed through PalmettoStateArmory.com. If you are waiting for your online order, you will receive an email from us with information regarding how to pick it up once it arrives.
We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope you understand, and we look forward to being able to get back to business as usual as soon as possible.
Keep an eye on this page for more details as we move forward.
PS: This closure does not affect PalmettoStateArmory.com. As of now, we are still able to process and ship all online orders within our usual timeframe.

I could live off that for awhile.
pro-tip -- when bread shelves empty, go to the frozen bread section.
I was in Ingles in Walhalla this AM. Bread was almost completely gone (but they were restocking). Heard bread guy tell manager to not expect any "store-brand" bread for awhile, just the name stuff. Breadmakers aren't gonna make the discount stuff right now. But the frozen bread section (Texas toast, biscuits, etc) was practically untouched.
They also had a good amount of TP, maybe 1/4 full. All sizes from 4-roll to the giant pack. All or most brands. Didn't see many folks with any in their carts either.
Red meat was depleted a good bit. Milk too. Cereal aisle full stock.
You city folks that have empty stores need to road-trip to small towns, where people don't seem to be in hyper-panic mode, or either there's just not the population demand.

supply chain automation

oh wait
been booming for years bruh
warehouses we design can turn over entire supply chains in a couple days. limiting factor is sales and trucking.
FWIW we're still selling #### like hot cakes. everything is just remote. implementations might get hit by a few weeks if travel gets banned, but most engineering / design work can be done from anywhere
drone delivery, automated trucking, AGV solutions in conventional fulfillment centers (Costco) could eliminate 25-50% of the workforce.

critical items like food, pharma, dry goods, etc. will not have consumption declines over a period of time. there will certainly be shifts within the data of each of those buckets but total demand will stay pretty constant.
the question was which companies would boom...
in order to mitigate potential supply issues at stores, getting products to people, etc. these automated alternatives seem to ease the reliance on a workforce.
I'd also be long commercial real estate groups (i.e. ProLogis, Blackstone) as larger firms may potentially re-align their supply chains to become less reliant on central areas.
Utility companies (Southern Co, Verizon) should be considered somewhat safe too. Won't "boom" but also won't really suffer much losses come earnings season

When you can't get say, a gearbox out of Germany for the conveyor line that Epi Pens run down, there's not a whole lot you can do. Seems like plants that actually keep a decent supply of spare/wear parts are few and far between.
I've got a customer right that's a major automotive supplier, we've been trying to get them to buy spare equipment going on 5 years now. They have been advised over and over again that this piece of equipment will fail eventually since it's had no maintenance and runs almost 24/7. Every time they say they cannot spend the money. Well, here they are with gearboxes leaking oil worse than a Jeep, and are about to lockup Replacements have an 8 week lead time...During good times. Who knows what that will go out to in a few weeks.
And they still can't get their purchasing to approve a PO.
