MTSU only won by 9 over Michigan State.

Gamecocks' loss to Coppin State by 13 still remains the largest margin of victory of a #15 seed over a #2 seed in NCAA Tourney history.

It was just proudly displayed on ESPN.

They weren't a 2 seed that year , not in my mind at least . They had a couple of big wins against the weak SEC basketball slate and won the conference.
I felt like they were more like a 4 or 5 that year .

I read your comment as "in your mind" you remembered it differently and that they were in fact not a #2 seed, but now I realize (after your explanation) that you meant "in your mind" you simply didn't accept their #2 seeding as legitimate.

They were a legit #2 seed that year. I sat in my brother in law's bar and watched that game with about 50 uSC fans. Fun things come to those who wait for it. I had a pitchfork in my trunk...
