I think Texas A&M would gladly pay that much or more

for what Jimbo did at FSU. He seemingly left things a mess at the end, but he won a national title, made the first playoff, won 3 ACC titles, and won 10+ games 6 times in 8 years.
If he gives A&M 8 years like THAT i think they will happily accept the rebuild with a new coach 8 years from now.

Way too early to say that about Texas or Nebraska

Herman and Frost both need 3-4 years before they can be properly evaluated.
The Lovie Smith contract is awful though and Harbaugh is starting to look like a bit of a bust as well.

Crazy prices in the coaching market.

Saban and Mayer might be worth theirs.
Harbaugh and Malzhan are clearly not worth theirs.
Jimbo and Kirby remains to be seen.
Dabo is worth what he gets paid but if it really was about the money I am not sure we could really compete if someone else wanted him.

Crazy numbers and don't mind my incoherent ramble -
When you think of all the wealth our football success has created around the area it seems well worth the cost of his salary. However as they say the optics are not great and makes the case for pay the players agenda.
What if Clemson refused to increase Dabo's salary and paid him well under market value? If the Alabama job was not open - would he likely go somewhere else? Would not paying him be like a slap in the face?
Alternatively instead of paying top dollar for a coach you could higher and up and comer (like we did with Dabo initially) and invest the difference in capital assets by constantly updating our facilities and recruiting efforts.
In all I think the only way to avoid eventually paying players and allowing them to make money on their likeness is to somehow create an alternative rout to the NFL so kids have a choice between becoming a student athlete and going pro. Dabo has created so much wealth for Clemson and the upstate that it can be justified to pay him more and more money.

No, alternate route is BS. It’ll ruin college football just like b-ball and college baseball. Crazy to create an alternative route. If you’re for that, you’re not really a true college football fan. It’d be bad and encourage players to not get an education.

So who would you rather have coaching your team, the 7th highest paid coach or the coach who is #1 in the things that matter most; ethics, morals, character, you know those things!

You’re right Zee, money can’t buy what Dabo gives you. Schools will keep trying and failing. That “it “ factor.
We’ll pay Dabo whatever the market demands. If we had to double his salary next year, we’d find a way to get er done.

Only 3 of these have earned what they're getting

Hard to argue Saban's had the best performance over the past decade Like him or not, Meyer earned it before (debatable where he stands now and ongoing but still winning lots of games) None of us would trade Dabo and now he's proved it for > 7 seasons Rest of them are getting paid serious money based on potential/ past performance/ donor base desperation Some may prove me wrong over several years, but willing to bet nearly half end up coaching elsewhere or TV commentating after 5 more seasons with a nice golden parachute

His agent deserves $4Mill of that annually considering how bad he fleeced Illinois with that contract.
