He had knee surgery during the off-season.

He’s only recently been back at practice, and some of that time was with a knee brace. My guess is that he’s not quite back in game shape yet.

Interesting to note that, aside from rare occasions last night, our guard rotations were almost exclusive to each other...almost like hockey line substitutions.

Line 1: Dawes, Trapp, Hunter
Line 2: Honor, Hemenway, Newman

It'll be interesting to see tonight if that continues, indicating that it is being done purposefully.

I can also confirm the knee issue. Brownell claimed he was disappointed that Newman missed nearly the entire summer workout period. So easing back into game shape is likely a part of the explanation. Hunter starting was a bit of a surprise, considering he is just recovering from a broken finger himself (in the last month).
