Why are the Reps so helllbent against Covid aid to state &

Dec 15, 2020, 8:05 AM

local governments ? Surely these governments have accrued significant losses due to covid. Why not help them and the people that they serve ? What is the benefit to Reps to deny this help ?

Probably because those state and local governments want much more than just money for covid aid to distribute the vaccine.

Give them what they need - not what they want.

The Fed Gov would go broke if they just winged it like that. Repubs think most of local and state governments that need money are poorly run anyway. They see it as a money grab for poorly run governments. Anyway, Nancy Pelosi should have agreed to take that 1.8 billion. She even had the stimulus checks in that one. She choked. Now people will have to wait and see if the Dems take the Senate.

Personally, I believe it's time for both sides to quit playing politics.

People have lost their jobs, the housing market is about to bust, etc. Give most everyone a stimulus check, help SMALL business, pay rent, whatever it takes until Covid is mostly behind us.

I'm talking about when rent comes due. Many people haven't paid their rent/mortgages in months.

#### will hit the fan when it comes due.

Cause Mitch McConnell said they can't sue any of his friends

for coercing workers to do their job inside the petri dish at their chicken plant, then making bets on how many workers would get sick.

I agree that it seems the reps want blanket immunity for businesses - some of which did NOT make good faith efforts to minimize risks to their workers, but couldn't they separate that from the other. They seem to be offering separate bills going forward.

Also, stop arguing about the amounts of unemployment and stimulus - meet in the middle. Money injected into the economy now will more than pay for itself in the long run - in less economic damage now.

Because many of those local governments would use the money to prop up their pension plans that have been probably too generous and grossly underfunded. Why do the Dems insist on handing the keys to the candy store to lawyers, so businesses can be sued for opening their doors and someone supposedly developed COVID in those establishments. Doctors and hospitals operating under very trying and unprecedented conditions would be fair game. Any bill related to COVID should be about helping businesses and individuals, not sloppily run local and state governments and certainly not to open up yet another money stream for the lawyers.

ron,

You Do understand that the people on those pensions and the people who might sue for damages are red-blooded Americans, right.

I think it would be easy enough to designate the money to state & local governments to be used for Covid related purposes and stop that grift.

Is it possible that some businesses did NOT adequately protect their employees or customers - that they might actually be responsible for spreading the virus through their own greed or negligence ?

Yes-of course.
Definitely NO to stopping the grifters.
Probably some, but any law suits related to COVID would need to be slam dunks. The door should not be wide open to allow attorneys to sue unless it was just a blatant example of reckless behavior on the part of a business, hospital or physician.

In a word, Politics. Just like Pelosi would not agree to a new round of stimulus because she "didn't want Trumps name on the check". Both sides are scum.
