Merry Christmas Clemson: Dreams Do Come True

The Christmas holiday is as much about memories as it is about the present. The sight of a Christmas tree crowded with presents brings back of rush of pleasant thoughts from bygone times for many people, and I am no exception. Now, however, many of my Christmas memories involve time spent with the Tigers at some far-flung bowl site in pursuit of another title. Full Story »

Great article David. Brings back so many memories. Wish I could get this darn confetti out of my eye so I could see what I'm typing. I appreciate all the hard work you and Nikki do all year long to bring us some of the best reporting on the Tigers there is to be found anywhere. Merry Christmas to you and all the Tiger Family.

I, too, grew up on Jim Phillips on WFBC radio in Greenville. My uncle would take my cousin and myself to an occasional game, but The radio was the link to the Jimmy Addison led Tigers of the 60s. Oh , and home movies of the Orange Bowl vs Colorado that my uncle made. Awesome memories.

Merry Christmas David. It was 3 nights after Christmas and all through the room, all the Tigers were celebrating as the fireworks go boom.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, as well, David.

Great story! This is the perfect counterpoint to Rick Neuheisel’s comments on his XM show Monday, in which he was lamenting the fact that ‘we’ do a disservice to all the players by having them play on the 28th, thus missing a family Christmas at home. I am not there - nor am I in the players, families and coaches ‘shoes’ - however, I thought he was off the mark with his comments. My thinking is that IF I WERE on the team or ‘involved’, I would think it would be a great experience AND a great Christmas being in the playoff. From your 2014 Russell Athletic Bowl experience, it sounds like you and I are in agreement.

Thanks for what you do - and keep sharing your journey (and dream) with us!

Thanks for sharing David. I would bet that many of us in the Clemson nation have a story to tell and hearing them brings back many memories
I grew up in Vol territory in East Tenn. My first game as a kid was the day Coach Woody Hayes decided to punch a Clemson player during the game. I was midfield for the puntrooskie and in Athens when Treadwell drained a last second field goal. I have seen so many “moments” over the years that make the experiences so special. The sights and sounds of Clemson are not married to the football field and there really is something special in those hills. I am thankful that I have a chance to be there, to live the experience, and for people like you who share with those of us that live far away. Merry Christmas. ??

Merry Christmas and happy new year as well.great, great story.early on I too was more enamored of the nfl.LISTENED to the 1958 championship game-we were visiting relatives in NJ,and the game was blacked out on tv.my indelible memory is hearing the announcer repeatedly calling the play-unitas to berry and of course the overtime td by alan ameche.from that point on I was a die-hard BALTIMORE COLT fan.spent a goodly amount of time over the years in that city, because my mom was born there.never forgave the colts for leaving Baltimore.just can't cheer for a team from Indianapolis.but my interest in the pros has dropped like a rock,as my interest in the college game has rocketed up.especially coupled with the meteoric rise of our beloved CU Tigers.it's been quite a ride, and hopefully will continue for the forseeable future.GO TIGERS!

Thanks so much David and Nikki for your amazing coverage of Clemson football ??. It’s pretty miraculous to me how far Clemson has come since the fall of 1964. Then there was the arrival of the Tiger Paw in the early seventies. Next was the 1981 National Championship. Twenty plus years later, Dabo comes along and goes from the wide receivers coach to the head coach. What a ride it has been. I don’t think it’s over yet. All the best to you and yours and Merry Christmas ????!

Merry Christmas, David and Nikki - great personal article and thanks for sharing it!

Brought back lots of memories for me.
- also grew up an NFL junkie in the era of Terry Bradshaw and The Steel Curtain - my team in those days
- loved Keith Jackson on Saturday afternoons
- my first Clemson game I watched on TV was the ‘81 National Championship game because my cousins lived in SC
- 5 years later I went off to school at Clemson (from middle TN) where I roomed with two of my cousins
- been a lifelong Tiger fan ever since
- there’s been a lot of ups and downs along the way but the past 8 years have been rare air! Hope it continues!!

Great read David, we all have our stories, but once hooked on Clemson, it's for life! My Pop was a '43 grad and I grew up a Tiger. Raised in the 60's, many of those years were difficult, as the Coots seemed to have our number. Growing up in Cootville made it particularly bad when losing! But today those days are long gone! Want to thank you guys at Tigernet! Another great year covering the Tigers! Seems like when I talk to the States there is nothing about Clemson that I don't know about, which is cool seeing how I'm 6,000 miles away. You guys are a huge reason for my knowledge! Thanks so much, and Happy New Year! Go Tigers!!!

Great article! Never take for granted what you have as a experience and that job. I live in North Carolina (heart of tobacco road- Wolfpack, Tarheels, Blue devils) and I would love to have as much access to the team as you do because I am a true tiger. My dream is to have a conversation with coach Dabo while he takes me on a tour through the facilities and share his next phase of vision. I would love to have the day to day access you have with the team so that i can feel the actual heartbeat of the team before the game. Because your dream came true people that don't have that access wait on your content and coverage so that we can see through your eyes and feel what you feel.

Thanks for your work and coverage.

Terrific Article, David! My memories of Clemson football begin in 1973. As a child, I was going to games prior to then but can not remember specifics. And, I will never forget Jim Phillips' voice! He was absolutely the best!!!! Happiest of Holidays for you and your family!! God Bless!
