So - who is Flight Aware savvy ? In-laws are trying to get

to Tampa from a 15 day transatlantic cruise.

Flying almost / already bankrupt Norwegian Air.

On this Flight Aware screenshot, is the dotted blue line the expected flight path ?

If so - wondering why the deviation ?

Any experts have feedback on the impending doom of my in-laws actually coming out of this alive ?

Wind?

curvature of the earth?

pilot wants to stop over in Maine to pick up some lobsters?

pilot defecting to Canada?

The dotted blue line is the expected flight path, but it can be deviated due to weather, wind, shortcuts, etc. I'd worry more about them bringing home COVID-19 than the plane getting here safely.

They aren’t rushing over here to see our babies for at LEAST

Look, I can offer no suggestions to your question but I do have a question of my own.

What were they thinking getting on a floating disease incubator during a pandemic event?

Is it wrong for me to admit I encouraged them to go ahead

with it ?

I mean - they are in their mid-70’s and she had a cough & bronchitis before getting on ....... what could possibly go wrong ???

I’m certain there is a big life insurance policy. By “I’m certain” I mean I HOPE ......

diverted for many reasons. Could be something as simple as a change in the weather pattern and winds aloft to save fuel and time. Other air traffic perhaps. LOTS of flights up there right now. Who knows.

Agree

This looks like a deviation from the flight path to avoid the jet stream over the Atlantic.

How did they get in on a plane from Europe? Or maybe I missed something?

her way.

So that’s probably how.

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

2 hours to go. What’s the over / under, in hours, for how

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 1:50 PM

long it takes them to get through customs & virus clearance in Miami ??

I’m going to open the betting line at 4 hours.

Ohhhhhh - and the pilot is back on the dashed blue line. So maybe there was cloud cover over the Atlantic so he couldn’t see the line for a while.

Not really glad he got it back on track - cause, well - you know ......

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

When does the clock start?

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 2:02 PM

I've only seen /heard about ORD issues so have no guess on MIA. So based in nothing, I will take the under. Does the clock start once they enter the customs line or once the doors of the aircraft open?

A week ago yesterday, I went through customs in Miami - but it was at the Port of Miami. Customs was fast. Had just returned from a western Caribbean cruise with my in-laws.

Relevance of my travel experience to your original post? Absolutely none.

Still, when does the clock start on the bet?

2021 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

Let’s say 15 minutes after the MIL texts us that they have

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 2:13 PM

landed.

That 15 mins should get them close to being off the plane.

They are in row 17.

Allows for a little bit of ground traffic maybe.

Sound reasonable ?

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

Perfectly reasonable start time.

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 2:27 PM

One can't control for all variables. I'll still take the under. I'll go with an exact time of 2 hrs and 13 min. Probably on the low end but I'm rooting for them. They sound like ballers!

2021 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

So the opening bet has been placed. The O/U moves to 3 hours

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 3:10 PM

and 30 minutes - so I get bets equal on both sides and RAKE IN the vig !!!

I am CASHING IN on this virus thing !!! Bam !!!

Dotted line is just the expected flight path. Sometimes this changes on weather and other factors.

Mostly likely with Norwegian having the inital dotted line is there are priority flight lanes which are priced differently. The dotted line is a longer flight but a cheaper path fee wise for them to take. But with all the cancellations the other path opened up which is beneficial because it'll take less fuel. So basically the get a better path for the same money.

The WE ARE IN AMERICA text is here. Start the 15 minute

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 3:38 PM

countdown at 3:32pm

So the “How long does it take to get through” clock starts at 3:48pm

UPDATE : As of 4:35pm - they are still on the plane.

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 4:47 PM

Supposedly CDC is coming onboard for something or another.

Or they are releasing planes one at a time to go be cleared ?

MIL only does voice to text and her sends are nearly indecipherable some times.

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

Please continue to pass along MIL's indecipherable updates

In the meantime, myself and the other bettors are in agreement that we can suspend the O/U bet at this time.

2021 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

The betting window closed at the start of the clock.***

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

we could double down on some Miami to Tampa bets

That would continue annoy others that do not seem to be enjoying this thread as much as you and I.

But if we choose to not go that route, I'll take a nice N95 mask (one can dream) or a single container of Clorox Wipes.

So we got them a Southwest flight out of Ft Lauderdale

Posted: Mar 15, 2020, 9:54 PM

tomorrow at 2:50pm . . . .

Wait for this . . . .

They made reservations for tonight at the Hard Rock in Hollywood because they wanted to stay "in the guitar" . . . .

These 2 seriously are licking the toilet bowl and daring something to happen.

He's diabetic & she was compromised before getting on the 14 day cruise.

ASIDE:

So they get into Miami today and sit on the plane for nearly 2 hours.

They get a sheet of paper to fill out that asks how they are feeling, have they been in China recently or been near anyone who has.

About a half sheet of paper.

The bottom half is "To be filled out by US Authority ONLY" kinda thing and it includes a fill in the blank of "what was this person's temperature upon entering the country" . . . .

They filled out the paperwork, turned it in, waited another 30 minutes & were told they were all cleared to exit the plane & go on about their day - Have a NICE Day.

No further interviews and CERTAINLY no medical consultation to take temperatures, etc.

W H A T ? ? ? ?

My father in law is a diabetic as well who doesn't give a poo about changing his plans for anyone or anything. My in-laws were hitting the local tribal casinos (Michigan) this past weekend. They are bummed because their favorite announced this afternoon that they are closing. But their second favorite remains open for now. So yea!

I'm sure they would applaud your in laws for their choice in lodging but they would be quick to tell you that the slots are tight at Hard Rock. As mentioned earlier, we just got back from a 7 night cruise a week ago with them. They were the ones who insisted we go (slots sucked onboard too I was told). They are two old Honey Badgers. They don't give a ####.

Looking forward to a final update tomorrow when they get home safely.

So they woke up at 3am - a 14 day transatlantic must REALLY

mess with your internal clock ...... for so many days headed over there, at noon, the clock goes to 1pm

Anyway - up at 3am and changed their flight to the 10am one.

So they should be here by noon .....

The next battle is keeping them away from our 11 month old twin daughters for 14 days. How is THAT gonna happen ??

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg
