How can this be?

For the second time this week, I have a friend whose daughter got into both Clemson and SCAR, and chose SCAR. They have legacy, have grown up Tiger fans, and have chosen SCAR! Doesn't appear to be due to majors - mostly because they were accepted earlier by SCAR, and had convinced themselves that they weren't getting into Clemson.
Man, as a dad of a senior in HS, this would break my heart!

Might be closer to home, boyfriend or girlfriend is going there, easier to graduate, wanting to go to law school (for some unknown reason), or peer group is going there. May see some transfers.

There are numerous kids who choose a college without giving the thought of getting an education !

My question is this: Why would you even let your daughter apply to Coot U???
I have a daughter. No way in heck will they ever consider that a viable option. I mean, illiteracy is an option because at coot U it is just illiteracy with debt/meth.

Mine didn’t apply there, and didn’t consider applying

Hence my “how can this be?” Post.
One of them, the dad posted gleefully that his daughter was going to Clemson, and how proud he and his wife were to have her be a Tiger. Today, he said not so fast my friend...we are still proud, but she is going to SCAR.
This guy descends from Clemson royalty. Must have been a real kick in the nads.
I just don’t understand.

My second son was accepted at CU and another fine university in NC ( we live in NC ) and he contemplated the other place. He had tons of his HS buddies going there. Many of my friends asked where he was going and I stuck to this simple statement....I am not sure where he is going but the check is going to Clemson and it did for years. Certainly never regretted that decision.

I feel that exact same way, if they wanted my help paying for a college education, and smart enough to get into Clemson, I would set them straight from the beginning, if you need dads help paying for your education, I will write my checks to Clemson, and usuc will never in this life time ever see a dime of my money. I don't mind paying for what I believe to be the best, and my checks would be paid to Clemson, and I would tell them, enough said, take it or leave it, we both have a choice, and I've made mine!!!!

Many years ago, my brother was a 5th year senior. As my dad stroked out the tuition check, he looked at my brother and said “ I trust this finishes your credit hours because it finishes my payments” Amazingly, enough credit hours appeared to get him across the hump. The power of the pen/ purse

I told my kids I would pay for wherever they wanted to go...but my contribution would not exceed the cost to attend Clemson. If more than that, then the rest was on them. Seriously...it’s their life...how can (or should) I dictate where they should attend college.

to FSU to study marine biology. When my dad found out how much out of state tuition would have been, he quickly informed her that her choices were confined to the boundaries of South Carolina, if he was going to have to pay for it. She unfortunately opted for Coot U, and was the first of our family to graduate college. I attended Clemson, and was ultimately outnumbered 3 to 1 by Coot siblings. I always told them, I couldn't help if they were delusional, at least I saw the light.

I would ask to see the CU acceptance letter. Unless it's a boyfriend or bunch of deviant friends thing, your friend is probably lying. Kidding, but that is a weird story based on legacy, etc.

what a waste . . . what a shame.
My oldest son toyed with the idea of “coot U” and a music major . . . He asked if I would have a problem with it . . . I told him it was his choice, but if he chose the hens . . . his Mother would have to write the checks because I wouldn't disrespect my Father.

My daughter got into both USC and Clemson Honors this year. USC has a more robust honors college (I'm a CU grad) so that made it a contender. USC also gives so much more money to top students. We're still waiting on CU's scholarship amount but I'm doubting it will be much. USC would probably be about half the price. That being said, she has chosen CU and is super excited. I wouldn't have minded USC for undergrad though simply because we have two more kids and grad school will be on the horizon for all.
