...this morning.

However, someone needs to tell him that the last rapid on Section 3 is "Bull Sluice", not "Bull's Loose".

Dang, missed that. Beautiful place! Hopefully Packer had a better day than Ned Beatty's on the river.

Worked on the Chattooga River in college as a guide for two

years in the early 70's. Some of the customers we took down were a blast. They ranged from a raft of older "mature" women to a raft full of French students that were working at Dante's Down the Hatch in underground Atlanta. That's another story all together. We ran Bull Sluice every trip.

Grew up in WV before going to school at Clemson so had already run the New and Gauley before getting to Clemson so couldn't get excited about that Chattooga.

First couple rafting trips I did were before self bailing boats. For those that never had to do that they have no idea how much better the new boats are compared to the old ones.

I’ve been on both New and Gauley. Put in at the ### on the Gauley with one pipe blasting, couldn’t hardly hear a thing. I think the Gauley is the most serious River I’ve been on. Both beautiful, but no contest, I liked Gauley more.

“Dueling Banjos” has to be everyone’s favorite from that James Dickey Classic.

Burt Reynolds. What more can we say about the former FSU footballer???

The teacher in Breakfast Club and the Asst Police Commish in Die Hard also played at FSU. "We're gonna need some more FBU guys"

Most people don't know the story of Dueling Banjos. It was a direct ripoff of a song named Fuedin Banjos written by a semifamous musician from Charlotte. His name was Arthur Smith. He had a syndicated country TV and radio show for years. While he was never a big star, he was well known and respected in the music business. He went to court and was awarded a ton of money from the producers of the movie.

and the Cracker Jacks if I remember correctly. That was back when we only got about three channels on the old black and white on WBTV Ch. 3 in Charlotte.

Ah, way back in the memory banks. Remember Arthur's brother Ralph and how they credited another picker--"Featuring George Hamilton IV"

I've been on and in the Chattooga River off and on for 40+ years and while I've had some scary times, I've never had a bad time.

Once on a guided trip down the river with some Boy Scouts our guide pointed to a spot and said, "That's the location of the "Love Scene" in "Deliverance". Trying explaining that to boys aged 14-17 who had never heard of, much less seen the movie.

And that’s why the Boys Scouts of America are now just called the Scouts of America

school. It was so cool when Deliverance came out about the same time, and they were actually in the process of creating Lake Jocassee. Some scenes were filmed there, like the moving of the church. There are some youtube videos of divers on the bottom of Jocassee... there are still remnants of buildings and whatnot that were flooded to make the lake... and tombstones that were not relocated.

edit: Also, I knew immediately that the people in one of the last scenes eating dinner were not Hollywood actors. Those were real life, local extras. I'd say Pentecostal Holiness Church of God mountain folks. You just can't fake that...

I'm just trying to keep Anna Lee company.

I swam bull sluice once in the 90s. On a rafting trip the water level rose 10 inches in 30 minutes. We first had to use rope and rafts to get folks off the rocks in the middle.

We then started over the rapids and I was immediately thrown out and washed down the sluice. Luckily, I floated up on the sandy area to the right.

Wow. What a day !!!
