BC should pull a UConn and just go play basketball in the Big East. They can take Syracuse with them. Have a feeling they would both love to get some of their old rivalries back in basketball.

as a former pro fisherman, we have an old saying... "know when to go home." In other words, if the fish aren't biting, why fish. Likewise, in this pandemic-crazy world, if your team has nothing to catch except a case of covid and a win in a lower tier bowl, it might actually be better for them to "know when to go home."

Does this cost the ACC/Clemson any bowl revenue?

If so, they better not see a dime of our CFP payout.

How does this decision impact league revenue.
At 6 - 5 BC would be looking at a pretty low level bowl, but some of those lesser bowls have pretty sizeable payouts.
Here are most of the ACC's bowl tie-ins and corresponding payouts:
Independence Bowl – $2.2 million Quick Lane Bowl – $2 million Military Bowl - $2.1 million New Era Pinstripe Bowl – $4.4 million Camping World Bowl – $6.1 million Music City Bowl – $5.7 million Belk Bowl – $4.8 million Sun Bowl - $4.6 million Birmingham Bowl – $1.4 million

Some of those bowls have already been cancelled like the Sun Bowl.

it was more about not being able to see friends and family over the holidays just for a bowl that may or may not take place.
It was a team decision and I respect that too.

I agree. Very doubtful how many bowls will actually happen. Why hang around campus in lockdown, practicing for something that probably won't materialize. And if it does materialize, it will actually be EVEN WORSE than being on campus in lockdown. In a strange city but you can't see the sights, visit anything interesting, go anywhere cool, nor hang out with anyone. Why bother?

Just spitballing here but I imagine the cost of adhering to testing and COVID precautions day to day running your practices and program makes the bowl payout equation a little different. I doubt the lower half of bowls will be profitable for anybody this year given the lack of ticket sales and team activities leading up to the games. Usually you take your whole support staff as a reward but that wouldn’t happen this year. Not to mention they are probably being shamed all around Bahstahn for even trying to play football.

That is a good point about lost revenue for the other ACC teams. But with many lesser bowls, teams claim they break even with expenses participating in bowl games.

Lots Of Bowls May Cancel Though!

Money started the bowl craze! Making money that is. If you are going to lose money why do it? On the other hand as mentioned already; when splitting bowl proceeds - will they get an equal split? Should they; since they had an opportunity but didn't go? Or will their split be that of a team that didn't qualify? Don't they split it differently based on if you contributed or not?

Jeff Hafley is a pretty old-school knid of coach. I don't think he is ducking anything. He put his kids welfare ahead of the almighty dollar. i wonder if he lost some kind of bowl bonus ??
Maybe we should all recognize that these young kids might not have had as much fun playing football this year as they might have had. And that many of them have had enough this year.
