A-1 for beef...hamburger/hamburger steak/ cheap steak like sirloin...no sauce for ribeye/filet/strips
Heinz 57 for chicken or pork although I like a ranch/Tabasco mixture also

2k my words exactly some pepper and light salt during the cooking is all you need if it’s a good piece of meat and it’s properly cooked. TU’s for 2k.

HP sauce

British sauce developed in the late 1800s and served by one of the vendors of the Houses of Parliament. Hence "HP." Take the bite or edge off A-1 and you have HP. More smooth. We discovered it on our trips to London and have found it served occasionally at British or Scottish rallies here in SC.

I get A-1 meaning “top choice”, but where did Heinz’s “57” come from?
My birth year, so that’s a cool connection at least.

Heinz claims to have 57 different varieties, so they use the number 57 for marketing purposes. The 57 is meaningless when it comes to that specific sauce, they could have called it Heinz's Peppery Ketchup

If you put sauce and all of that other stuff on a steak how do you know if the steak is good? All of those additives masks the real flavor of the steak. The only thing I add to my steak is a little salt and pepper which I rub on just before it goes in the oven broiler.

Heinz 57 over A-1, but not on steak. Texas Pete or Frank's Hot Sauce over both. I don't care for Tabasco. It's not the heat, it's the flavor.

Amen. Any good cut of steak (filet, ribeye, sirloin, strip) cooked correctly (definitely not overcooked) needs no help. If you need meat cooked well done and/or sauce, go with burger, meatloaf, flanks, round, etc.)
