He is just trying to rile up the crowd. People LOVE someone to hate, and vote with their attention. He wins by further ingratiating himself to his core folk, the mouth-breathing SEC fans, while getting a whole other crowd of otherwise disinterested viewers/listeners, tweeters, to pay attention to him.

Win Win for ole Paaaaawwwwl.

If you can't see that he's picked his position strategically, and may not believe a word of it himself if you were able to get him to break character, then I don't know what to say to you.
