My Son and the Lamecocks

Nov 12, 2019, 12:09 PM

My son is a senior at Lexington High School, and a few months ago he was sending in his college applications. He naturally applied to Clemson, because I went there back in the early 80s and because he has been a die hard Tiger fan from day 1. He also applied to Anderson University where my daughter went (she was accepted to Clemson but preferred the smaller school setting). He got accepted to Anderson right away, and we know Clemson won't complete the process until January or February.
I expect he'll get accepted to Clemson (he has great grades and SAT scores), but I told him he may want to apply to moUSC just in case (as a fallback position). He told me there is no way he would go to that crappy/dangerous school. He said the smart kids he's friends with would rather go to a prestigious school like Clemson, where your diploma is something to be proud of and actually means something. That's my boy!!!
I did tell him to be careful what he says around his mom. She has always been a Clemson fan, but early in our marriage we couldn't afford to send her to a real college. Therefore she went to USC.

This old joke is ENTIRELY accurate...

Q: What do students at uof5c and Clemson have in common?

A: They both got accepted to uof5c.

When my kids were in high school, their college preferences were;

1 - Clemson

2 - Clemson bridge program

3 - Anywhere but uof5c

Both graduated with honors from Clemson (2016 and 2019)

I live in NC, and my oldest is a music major; he was targeting universities rather than conservatories so he could double major. His HS band director mentioned that UofSC has a very good music program - one of the better ones in the SE (I'll assume he was right). My son: "Not gonna happen". He is now at UNC, a MUCH better school

The top four music schools in the southeast are;

Nov 12, 2019, 12:42 PM

1 - Belmont

2 - UNC

3 - Liberty

4 - Furman

The top two in SC are Furman and Anderson

UNC-G is generally thought to be the best in NC.

My youngest is a junior in high school

She has a sister at Winthrop (got in Clemson but wanted a smaller school like your daughter) and a brother at Clemson, and my wife and I are both Clemson alumni.

She gets emails from SCAR periodically, and told me she is going to "unsubscribe" from their mailing list. That's my girl!

I'm married to a scar grad as well. I call her a rescue wife.

LOL “Rescue Wife”

My wife went to Winthrop but grew up a Gamecock fan until I rescued her. I’m gonna try that moniker out tonight and see how that goes over! I’m guessing not good.
