It’s funny how Spurrier doesn’t even really acknowledge Scar

Jan 3, 2020, 9:26 AM

It’s like he never even coached there. I don’t blame him for being embarrassed that he did.

They should be hanging onto any memory of success like the stench of grim death is approaching.

Even during the pinnacle of uof6c football...

the only thing of note they really accomplished was beating Clemson five consecutive times.

Otherwise, the height of their revelry resulted in absolutely no conference championships, no major bowl (BCS) appearances, and certainly no national championships.

The lone division championship they did managed to win (which came at a time when the rest of the $EC Least was as bad as it has been in 40 years), resulted in a epic beatdown by Auburn in the SECCG followed by another @$$ kicking by FSU in the Peach Fil-A Bowl.

Seems weird they didn’t make a BCS bowl going 11-2 three times.

That’s some fried chicken right there.

one conference could go to a BCS bowl. I don’t know who the top SEC team was, but I remember Missouri being ranked just ahead of SCar. SCar would have been picked for a BCS bowl based on their ranking, which was pretty high at the time, but they were ineligible. So they did kinda get screwed one year.

bell bottomed leisure suits and mullets. We know there could be some out there, but we don't want to bring up any of that in conversation for fear that some may surface. I am sure that Spurrier doesn't want any of his moob pics with him wearing a Lamecock visor to surface. Florida ones are bad enough.

At least (to my knowledge) he never got photographed nekked humping a dead fish like another ex-Florida coach. :)

to show the world that he could win where no one else could. He wanted to go back to Florida but they were still mad about him leaving them for the NFL. I suspect he also purposely left them in a condition where they couldn't win after him either.

Ironically, if we hadn't let Tommy Bowden go he might have never gotten his hands on players good enough to give them even the little 4 year run they enjoyed. I guess if losing to them five years in a row while Dabo got his feet under him was the price we paid for today's success, one might argue that it was worth it.

I think it's funny that of their two recent hall of fame coaches, Spurrier doesn't acknowledge being there and Holtz doesn't remember.

Well said - TigerSmith .. and he had to have those generational in-state players to accomplish that little run ...

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

I remember when the Spurrier to USCe talk dominated conversation and Holtz said, "I'm not gone yet!". He was kicked to the curb before it was official. That was great.

Never liked Lou Holtz. He maintained a phony public persona of being jovial, sunny and humble but he was actually a prickly jerkhead when cameras were not around.

Spurrier is a pure UF guy who took a side trip to USCe. He ended up being the best coach they will have in their history but they show him no appreciation because it was ugly how he left.

His feelings are quite understandable.

I love Spurrier for his years at UF. He made so much fun of FSU, UGA and Miami. It was priceless! He's an all-time character and there won't be another one like him.

There was no excuse for his dissing of Clemson. I'm biased but it just wasn't as on point with the constant cracks he made about UF's rivals.
