Follow Up to my drywall repair

Mar 2, 2021, 9:30 AM

so reminder, my son had created a hole (actually two) by throwing a baseball and then his bedroom door also caused a really small one. We got all new trim and doors last Summer and I took too long to get those hinge stoppers put on the door. Anyway, the small hole, super simple. I used the mud that is pink and turns white when ready, really smart idea, sanded down, now ready to paint.

The larger hole from him doing his best Nolan Ryan to me in the room, was just as easy and here is why....warning, FBCoach kind of story about to occur, but it ends well.

I am at the paint store grabbing the shade of blue to paint the small hole that was ready. A painter guy and I were talking and I just asked him how he would repair the larger hole. He said, "you have pine trees in your yard?". Yes I responded. He said, go find a pine cone that fits in the hole or cut the hole to a good size a pine cone will fit. Then get the pine cone tight, mud over the pinecone. Then sand it down and paint, dont use the mesh, etc..

Holy cow it worked!! Its strong and you cannot even see the where the hole was located.

TL<img border=">">R - I did something that FBCoach would do and I am kind of proud. I used a pine cone to patch drywall.

moar questions re: cone install

Mar 2, 2021, 9:59 AM [ in reply to "HEY, FOLLOW UP QUESTION MANAC ]

green, tight pinecone or a dead, fully spread-out one?

installed so bottom of cone exposed, or was it placed in wall horizontally?

we're really curious of details, cause it makes very little sense.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

big side out. so the dried butt of the cone faces out

Mar 2, 2021, 10:00 AM

I didnt even have to cut. I just stuffed it in the wall. It was large enough that it hit on the back side and is as solid as it can be.

make sense now?

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you didn't mention cone length > inner width of wall

Mar 2, 2021, 10:04 AM [ in reply to big side out. so the dried butt of the cone faces out ]

so it would wedge in there.

Yeah, it's at least imaginable how it works now.
