Jackson Browne, "These Days"

I don't listen to my iPhone tunes library much these days, since I'm not in the car nearly as much. This'n came up on shuffle today. I've posted this tune and album before, and compared to Gregg Allman's version. Both excellent, but JB's has an excellent, soaring David Lindley steel guitar part. This album introduced me to David Lindley, and he's a lesser known wizard of guitar. Fits with some earlier threads, "Don't confront me with my failures, I had not forgotten them"

We saw him at the Peace Center a few years ago and he was still good.
Thanks for reminding me.

I saw him in Charlotte after "Running on Empty"

so, '77 or '78, he did Load Out and Stay, but all his prior popular tunes with a large band. Late in the show, the couplet from this album, "Sing My Songs to Me" into "For Everyman" just blew me away, with the timpani segue.

read they were roommates in LA back before they were famous,

which is how Allman was familiar with the tune before JB cut it. And he changed the last line: "don't confront me with my failures, I'm aware of them" Either way, that's a deep, strong line.

You mentioned Greg Allman and that reminded me

We were at the Johnny Mercer in Savannah many years back at a Jackson Browne concert and Mrs. TIG62 whispers "That's Greg Allman" . I looked to my left and across the aisle is this guy with hair past his shoulders, plaid shirt and jeans. No way I thought she could recognize someone in a dark theater. But this guy stood up 10 minutes later and walked down to the stage where they let him go through. Jackson came out after an intermission and mentioned visiting with his good friend Greg Allman during the break. We've seen Jackson three times but that was the best one we saw.
