Hypothetical choice for long-suffering basketball fans

Jan 14, 2018, 3:33 PM

Suppose you are given this choice for how the rest of the basketball season plays out:

Scenario 1: We win in Chapel Hill on Tuesday. We do not win the ACC regular season, but do win the ACC tournament, beating either UNC or Duke in the championship game. We enter the NCAA tournament as a #1 or #2 seed. We fail to make the Sweet 16.

Scenario 2: We lose in Chapel Hill on Tuesday. We win the ACC regular season, but lose in the semifinals of the ACC tournament to either UNC or Duke. We make our first program Final Four, but do not win the national championship.

As a long-suffering Tiger Basketball fan, I'm taking Scenario 1 all day long. How about you?

Never mind either one of those choices! ...

I would take a win over UNC in Chapel Hill ... PERIOD! ... and not worry much about how the rest of the season played out.

Seriously!

Those long-suffering fans who disagree, just haven't suffered nearly as long as I have.

I can't even discuss it for fear

of jinxing whatever chance we may have. I haven't watched an entire game between the two team in years and doubt seriously it'll be any different this season. Don't want the situation to devolve into hiring a witchdoctor to remove a curse like another one of our rivals did

Other than that, the annual remembrance doesn't affect me in the least--------wonder which former players the 'holes will bring in this season to exhort this year's unc squad to continue the streak??

You do realize the streak of not making a final four is longer tho right? ;)

First things first ...

I would take 2. Yes the streak is big but I would rather make it to the final four than beat UNC.

we have to beat UNC

Before anything meaningful can be obtained

Final Four may yield better recruits down the road.

I'd rather beat UNC for a Final Four or National Title berth, than worry about CH. If I can have both, then greed is good! Gordon said so...

1 is attractive. But, it would be funny to take that away from our little brothers in the midstate.

One game at a time and I really want to break the streak Tuesday. I’m going greedy with it and I want to do it with a statement that we are finished with that nonsense

2, and it's not even close.

The stupid streak in Chapel Hole is meaningless. It's just something for morons to talk about every year, and it really doesn't matter.

Final 4? Hell yes!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also, we have beaten UNC in Greensboro

in the postseason, which is tougher and a bigger deal than winning a regular season game in chapel hill.

So the streak is null and void anyway. There you go.

According to Dabo we should dream extravagantly

Jan 14, 2018, 8:20 PM

So I'll take both.

I too want both! Been following Tiger BB since Coach Locke’s first campaign!

Go Tigers!

The way we win in Chapel Hill is simple

Jan 14, 2018, 8:41 PM

----- none of us diehard Tiger fans tune in to watch the game. Then we win and all of us regret the fact that we missed the end to the longest misery in Clemson history.
