2 and 3 Star. Clemson Developed Star Players!

I know you can't bank on lower rated players as the life blood to building championship teams! However, you can't knock our excellent coaching staffs ability to recognize a lower rated players "potential" upside. Take a look at the below list and tell me if a 2 or 3 star player isn't worth putting in your strength and conditioning program "if they have the right set of skills"! Many of these kids were lower rated because of many factors including; but limited to the following: the competition they played against, not attending camps where they competed against other top talent therefore getting a fair grade, being too light in the pants for certain positions(but were good tacticians), not strong enough, fast but not fast enough to be a higher star, not tall enough(though still a good player), etc.
Etienne played at a small high school. I think the same was the case for a few others on this list. I would give our coaching staff an A+ grade for development. Agree?
Clemson is blessed to have a nice mix of both - the good 3 star player that will RS a year and get stronger/faster/bigger will be just as good under our coaches tutelage. These guys are often playing with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove their star rating was wrong and that they are just as good. This brings about a situation where the 4 and 5 star player can't relax and not put out max effort. Our coaches have proven - whoever gives the team the best chance to win will be on the field regardless of what your old H.S. star rating said! I am thankful we don't have to totally rely on being a "developmental school" but I love to see the walk ons, 2 and 3 star guys come in and shine! It's a beautiful thing! See below. Kudos to our coaching staff including the Strength and Conditioning team and to the players who worked their tails off to get better! https://247sports.com/Player/Grady-Jarrett-538/ https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2004/aaron-kelly-42194 https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2014/hunter-renfrow-17064 https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2016/isaiah-simmons-3244 https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2016/k-von-wallace-646 https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2017/travis-etienne-11589 https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2010/bashaud-breeland-22417 2nd round pick and number 57 overall 2 star player. https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/t-j-green-13934 https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/wayne-gallman-13967
This isn't all - these are just some that will be or have had or currently having a stint in the NFL! Not bad right? So, don't knock a kid just because he isn't a 4 or 5 star player if the kid is coming to Clemson! There is a list as long or longer of 4 and 5 stars players who barely saw the field at Clemson! Or who were just marginal college players. Football is a developmental game no matter how many stars you have! With our coaching staff - if they bring in a low rated player they believe they can make them great! I trust that process and don't panic about it. They have done far and away enough to convince me they know what they are doing in this arena.

Great ?? post!
Thanks!
The guys who keep up recruiting like a 2nd religion will hate it. But, the fact is the Deshaun Watson lead National Championship team had a "composite recruiting class" outside the top 10. That team was composite #14. I.E. what plays you run, the scheme you run, the coaches you have, the developmental program you have all have a ton to do with success as much as "initial star rating"!
Our coaches have got some Bill Bellicheck in them! Meaning: they have an eye for players who aren't as valued by others but who would work great for Clemson! Now, full disclosure, it only works because we do get our fair share of 4 and 5 star players as well! It's a good mix and it allows you to RS kids who need a year in a college conditioning, speed and strength program to develop. It's masterful really!
