Why is Tennessee’s orange color so pallid and distasteful?

Did it seem an appropriate choice because it matched great-grandiddy’s faded front porch couch outchunder’t the cabin?

Seems like you’d pick a color that isn’t an automatic display of apologetic weakness, but that’s just me.
