Watched Tenn/UNC game. My thoughts on umps cheating for SEC

There have been a lot of posters on here who have insinuated that the umpires are cheating to help SEC teams. That is a very serious allegation. I cannot stress the seriousness of that enough.
I am the FIRST person to say that if the umpires are, indeed, cheating to help SEC teams (or cheating to help ANY team, regardless of conference affiliation) then that is completely unacceptable. An investigation has to begin and the penalties, repercussions, and FIRINGS have to happen. PERIOD. No place for that in college sports.
I watched the entire Tennessee and North Carolina baseball game tonight. I honestly did not see any signs of cheating, impropriety, or favoritism to help Tennessee. I don’t know what will happen in the other games involving ACC and SEC teams, but I am going to be watching them very closely.
But, again, I am just being honest about what I saw in the game tonight.

Well we can all rest easy that a dawg is on alert for possible SEC favoritism. It's not like UGa didn't perfect cheating over the last 60 years. We can also arrange to have the fox guard the henhouse (in columbia).
By the way, Tennessee was never in danger of losing, so they didn't really need help tonight.

In last night's NC State vs KY game, two pretty obvious strikeouts were reversed, leading to NC State losing the game! I doesn't have to be overt cheating, just an ump who may be an SEC fan, not seeing the call in question with a completely impartial eye!

in your assertions and I would hope that all the umpires would be reviewed, graded, or whatever. This goes for all the umpires, regardless if it involves ACC/SEC games or all ACC or all SEC games.
If questionable things appear or a pattern is detected, then I absolutely would take the next step to suspend or all the way up to termination.

Even a coot knew strikeouts aren’t reversed. Balls, strikes, and swings aren’t reviewable.
Anyway, the bias is real. They are trying out pitch track at certain games. One was the Clemson vs Florida finale at DKS. He said he was able to see the exact position of each pitch as it crossed the plate. He says he has proof that Florida received an extremely liberal strike zone with many calls well off the plate or below the knees. Clemson received a tight zone with many clear strikes called balls and nothing off the plate. He said he’s ok when it’s called consistent for both teams. He said in 30 years he’s never seen a more one sided strike zone. He was interviewed on a radio program and claimed he was afraid to speak about it for fear of retribution from the NCAA. If his assertions are true, the NCAA needs to look at the evidence and act accordingly.

Tough call and does appear impacted the outcome

Not gonna lie, UGA has been the recipient of some shaky calls against Alabama (2017 natty game and this years SECCG) but I want to believe that they were judgment calls.
But, could Saban have helped sway an official?
I just WANT to believe officials are honest, though.

I think most are honest but in my opinion since review has started. Officiating has gotten extremely bad. I feel they rely heavily on the review so they take the easy way out on most calls. The unfortunate part is every play can’t be reviewed.

in the HR. I do not understand how that one was not corrected.
I want Georgia to win, but I want it done fair.
When I play in a tournament, I could easily move my ball a little in the rough and no one would be wise to it. But, I would. No way.
I just want it fair.

the key games where the SEC favoritism came into play was the georgia baseball game, really a waste of 18 innings as it should have been over in 9 but the umpires pretended they couldn't see the ball on the right side of the homerun pole..........aka they just didn't want to change it.
i guess the next example is game 2 of the clemson florida series........not even an opinion pitch technology has confirmed it was a horribly called game in favor of florida not just a little bad.
i guess last seasons tennessee game, clemson best player getting tossed for doing way less than TN players were doing all game.......suspicious.
then the fsu tennessee game, even with the many blunders of fsu by there coach and relief pitchers game should have been over......they absolutely gave TN a run in the 8th by ignoring a third strike, then ignoring a few game ending strikes also in the 9th.
Why would even an SEC fan think that is conspiracy? you dont deny that the espn deal giving SEC teams alot of money and having companies like Pfizer as a sponsor is not a wink and a nod, that they will take care of "there product"? it is very very naive to believe that almost every facet of american big business is not manipulated and controlled, stock market, elections, everything
But somehow in the minds of hard core SEC when in comes to officiating for a hundred billion dollar business they think its just boyscouts from all sides just pure unadulterated fairness ha ha......

I had a chicken alum tell me yesterday that the last eight pitches that Clemson threw in the final game against Florida were strikes. The ref called them as balls. I need to rewatch the end of the game to see if this is true.

Really really comforting to hear that a baseball game was played and the umpires did not cheat. This is great. I will sleep well tonight tonight.
In unrelated news, did you see the UGA pitcher using some foreign substance in the bullpen a couple months ago?
Did you see the home run in the Clemson UGA game that was called a foul ball?

Amen! Umpiring/refereeing are hard, as anyone who has ever attempted it knows. We also all know that we are biased. I hope you are right that the umpires are seeking to be fair. College basketball has been ruined for me by the "one and done" players. College football seems to be seeking to be NFL-lite. But money has not gotten in to ruin college baseball so far. Let's hope it doesn't.

The best solution to the always present human error in baseball is AI/Computer driven umpiring. From a technology standpoint, it could be done. The will to change in a sport not known for progressive thought is the impediment.

I think we all want honest officials, umpires, etc., etc
Jun 17, 2024, 10:31 AM

|
But, when we feel “our” team or “our” conference was the recipient of a bad call then our emotions become inflamed and real. And, we DO start to wonder if something funny is going on.
I just want to think that umpires and officials do not care who wins and call it as honest as they can. Completely unconcerned about winner or loser or conference or whatever.
I know there are examples of calls that can fit a narrative, though. And, umpires and officials are just human.
Just want to think games are called honest, but if shaky business were/is going on that would be reprehensible

Bulldog, you are a perfect example of your conference. You and the gamecocks are quick to blame officials when you lose a game. You, obviously, did not watch our super regional with Florida. 3 Clemson players and coaches were ejected. The Clemson player was ejected for crossing the chalk line instead of going to the dugout as instructed by the umpires. But yet, 3 Florida players did the exact same thing and none, none were ejected. Explain that leg humper and go back to your board and stay there. You or your biased opinion are not wanted here.

I saw something very egregious in the UT/Tenn game.
The fact that UT was there after they lost to fsu but were gifted multiple opportunities from two umpires (home plate and 3B ump).
The pitch itself was a strike, the check swing was an obvious swing. But hang on, can’t end the game like that.
Just like they can’t toss Caglione versus Clemson. Or Vitello for leaving the dugout to scream at umpires in game 1 of the CWS.
