disappointing season in Clemson basketball history or....
86-87, 93-94, 21-22 or any Purnell NCAA tourney invite? or Another?
FM would reference preseaeson expectations, but does his opinion really matter?
Curious.
TIA.

Looking back, having Dale Davis and Elden Campbell on the same team

should've been Final 4 worthy. I know it took a freak play from one of the nation's top player to knock us out in the sweet 16, but still.. That team should have been seeded higher than a 5 and put in a bracket with Duke, UConn, Kansas and a 1 loss LaSalle team.

We lost to Western Michigan in the first round that year.

Nevermind, UCONN, Elden completely clueless under the basket. Certainly not even close to a disappointing team.

Yes, 97-98 team is most disappointing team in program history.

We were #5 in the AP poll to start the season. We had dropped out of the top 25 by mid-December. We briefly got back in the top 25 in mid-January but weren’t ranked after that.
After the new year, we were just 8-11.That team had two future NBA players (Buckner a senior, Jamison a junior) and also had McIntyre (a junior) who was incredible in Europe, plus some other good pieces such as Wideman, Iturbe, Christie, etc.) yet we were just 18-14, 7-9 in the ACC overall.
Nonetheless, the committee gave us the benefit of the doubt because of the ACC’s reputation and seeded us 6th. We were upset by 11 seed Western Michigan in the first round.
Second most disappointing has to be the 86-87 team. Although we were not highly thought of in the preseason (unranked), we were 25-6 overall and 10-4 in the ACC. Horace was ACC Player of the Year and an All-American. That team is disappointing because it lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament and was then upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. We were a 4 seed and lost to 13 seed Missouri State.

Judge please don’t take this wrong way, but your commenting on my post could be misinterpreted by some morons around here of discrediting my post and potentially calling it racist or out of bounds.
While I will not name the idiot I’m referring to, that would be a personal attack. I will ask that people recognize some experts ignorance of the last 7-8 years of Tiger basketball. Glad we overcame purnell’s lack of caring in the end. Yeah. It was said. 🙂
Glad we didn’t hire Gregg Marshall over Pat Kelsey a couple of years ago. 😳
