EXHIBITION GAME NOTES
players sorted by position group as listed on official roster
broad position abbreviations: GK = goalkeeper, DF = defender, MF = midfielder, FW = forward
specific position abbreviations: RB = right back, RCB = right center back, CB = center back, LCB = left center back, LB = left back, CDM = central defensive midfielder, RM = right midfielder, RCM = right center midfielder, CM = center midfielder, LCM = left center midfielder, LM = left midfielder, CAM = central attacking midfielder, RW = right wing, W = wing, LW = left wing, ST = striker
note that because these are exhibition games, coaches will sometimes experiment with players at unusual positions, so this is why there are players who played positions listed outside their general position groups on the roster, and also why so many players played multiple positions in the same game
in the Georgia game, the teams were not wearing numbered uniforms, so I wasn't able to identify everyone for certain and keep track of who exactly was in the game, so that's why for some players you'll see I put "not sure"
in the UNCW game, the teams did wear uniforms, so I was able to definitively identify everyone and keep track of all substitutions
also, in case anyone was wondering, similarly to how the football team did the spring game, because these were exhibition games, Clemson didn't play some of their best starters in order to give other players a chance to play and for injury precaution
save for a few minor things, the whole team appears to be fully healthy, Renee Lyles didn't play and was wearing a knee brace, but she seemed to be moving around just fine, so it doesn't appear to be anything significant, although I'm not sure exactly how much of a limitation it will be, if it is at all, hopefully she'll be ready to start the season opener
(number, position group, name, status, specific positions played in game, notes)
------------------------------- Georgia exhibition game notes \/
34. GK Ally Lynch N ---not a great leg 1. GK Nona Reason T ---better leg but still not great, aggressive play, good in the air, great 1v1 save vs UGA 26. GK Addy Holgorsen P ---played
13. DF Kam Pickett T ---RB---extremely involved in possession, great thru ball, easily best player on the field vs UGA, she and her CB got burned defensively on an inside thru ball once, GOAL-made a run inside, broke thru and cooly slotted it home, brilliant moves under pressure, great finish 9. DF Mackenzie Duff S ---didn't play 12. DF Sydeny Minarik R ---RCB---tends to come forward, takes risks, made 1 bad turnover, has some playmaking ability, good service, good headers, good shot, physical in the box, former striker, played outside-back last year 3. DF Layne St. George R ---didn't play 25. DF Dani Lynch P ---LB---not good 1v1 offense, can long throw 21. DF Emilia Eriksen E ---RB---great instincts, composure, and positional awareness, several great passes under pressure, broke a press and got the ball forward to spark a play, pushes up cautiously but doesn't allow runs by her, cut off a pass trying to get behind her 6. DF Eleanor Hays P ---not sure if she played 22. DF Gabby Gambino P ---not sure if she played 19. DF Anna Rydin E ---not sure if she played
10. MF Renee Lyles S ---didn't play 30. MF Christian Brathwaite T ---didn't play 7. MF Dani Davis S ---CDM/CB---physical, can create plays, but also makes mistakes, got beaten badly once as CB, but was a midfielder last year 5. MF Emily Brough R ---CDM---technical, but tends to dribble into dead-ends, good passer, good instincts, but frustratingly mistake-prone 2. MF Kendall Bodak E ---CM/CAM---good hold-up play, nice quick moves under pressure, good headers and thru passes, good chemistry with Tobia, combined on an offensive steal and then a nice dribble cut back, set up Tobia for a goal 16. MF Ella Hauser P ---CM---good thru ball, good header 17. MF Anna Castenfelt E ---not sure if she played
24. FW Megan Bornkamp S ---didn't play 11. FW Tatum Short S ---didn't play 8. FW Jenna Tobia S ---ST---pretty good on the dribble, good chemistry with Bodak, combined for a steal and then a nice dribble cut back, Bodak then set her up for the GOAL, good shot 18. FW Maria Manousos R ---LM/LW---good dribbler 29. FW Jordan Thompson T ---not sure if she played 15. FW Ella Johnson E ---not sure if she played 23. FW Allie Serlenga E ---ST/W---GOAL, got set up in the box, good composure on the finish 27. FW Erin Sherden N ---RM/RW---fights thru contact, physical, feisty
overall Georgia game notes: some sloppiness at the back, got carved up badly on the UGA GOAL, no marking or pressure, some good defensive instinct plays, but also some inexplicable mistakes, good spacing and wing play, but lack of aggression and decisiveness exploiting the middle, still struggle against the press, wing backs very involved in the offense, formation appeared to be a 4-2-3-1

34. GK Ally Lynch N ---GK---made a great diving punch-clearance save 1. GK Nona Reason T ---GK---played 26. GK Addy Holgorsen P ---GK---played
13. DF Kam Pickett T ---RB/LB/LW---made an excellent goal-line clearance, played good outside defense, made a great dribble to escape pressure at the back, made a great inside run from the wing to set up a great chance for herself, put the shot wide 9. DF Mackenzie Duff S ---didn't play 12. DF Sydeny Minarik R ---RCB/LCB/RB---good defense, had 3 pass break-ups and made a solid tackle 3. DF Layne St. George R ---didn't play 25. DF Dani Lynch P ---RB---played 21. DF Emilia Eriksen E ---LB/RB---played great thru balls up the wing setting up good chances, has great positioning and awareness, still not a good 1v1 dribbler, and doesn't have a good deep cross or shot, she sometimes lacks decisiveness, cut off a pass trying to get past her up the wing, very good at intercepting passes trying to get in behind her, made a great defensive hold-off play by shielding with her body, shows good toughness 6. DF Eleanor Hays P ---LCB---made a bad pass up high, GOAL-was open on the far post on a corner kick from Tobia and tapped it in 22. DF Gabby Gambino P ---didn't play 19. DF Anna Rydin E ---LCB/RCB---made a good physical 1v1 tackle, played good defense, big, physical player
10. MF Renee Lyles S ---didn't play 30. MF Christian Brathwaite T ---LCM/CAM---made a good slanted run through the box on a nice dribble and then was able to hit a low cross back at tight angle, good dribbler, would like to see her get more involved 7. MF Dani Davis S ---CM/LCB---alternated with Tobia as a set-piece taker, seems to act as a leader, aggressive, very involved in playmaking, does make some slight miscues and sometimes gets burned for it, but lots of times her aggressive style is effective, GOAL on a direct free kick 5. MF Emily Brough R ---RCM/LCM/RB/CAM---good passes and thru balls, not great on defense when she was first moved to RB, seemed to get the entire defense out of sorts, but she later made some good runs with the ball from that same position 2. MF Kendall Bodak E ---RCM/CAM---great dribbling ability, needs to be more aware and decisive as a passer, GOAL-set up for an easy finish by Tobia 16. MF Ella Hauser P ---RCB/LCM/CDM---made a nice dribble cutback under pressure to avoid a trap, plays well under pressure with the ball, good toughness, plays good defense, did get overwhelmed and stripped of the ball once 17. MF Anna Castenfelt E ---LW/LCM---has a nice eye for goal, took 2 pretty good shots, made a great interception to set up a good chance, then got another steal in the opponent's end to set herself up for a GOAL
24. FW Megan Bornkamp S ---didn't play 11. FW Tatum Short S ---LB---displayed her usual offensive brilliance while on the field, also seems to be able to play a fine outside back 8. FW Jenna Tobia S ---ST/RW---can hold the ball well offensively, great toughness, won a 1v1 against a defender to get inside and set up an easy goal for Bodak, primarily a ST, but can also play a very good RW, provides good crosses, made a great cut inside the box to get herself a good look at goal, then took a hard shot that went off the post, made a nearly identical play a few minutes later but this time found the back of the net for the GOAL off a deflection, got another great chance on a thru ball, got in clean behind the defense but put the shot just wide, set up Hays for a goal on a corner kick, alternated with Davis as a set-piece taker 18. FW Maria Manousos R ---RW/LW---made a good run inside and dribble cutback to set herself up for a good chance, the shot went off the post, played pretty good defense when needed 29. FW Jordan Thompson T ---ST---played 15. FW Ella Johnson E ---LW/RW---played 23. FW Allie Serlenga E ---didn't play 27. FW Erin Sherden N ---RW---played
overall UNCW game notes: team did a much better job attacking up the middle, feeding Tobia a lot of good thru balls, formation appeared to be a 4-3-3 with a few variations
