Hey Grayson- PLEASE stop with the “SEC pitcher….” Headlines. It’s “Alabama pitcher….”
Geez. The SEC doesn’t field a team. Stop pandering to that conference please.

Amp Phillips only threw a couple of games at Spartanburg Methodist last year, this year he was elite as upstate’s ace and will be in the weekend rotation at a big school next year, hopefully Clemson

Doesn't a 94-97 mph fastball account for something? Just asking. Seems that may be somewhat hard for some hitters to get around on.

These are not the kind of transfers that we want. We need guys that are proven and not a bunch of iffs.

There’s a power arm. Bakich obviously sees the need like we all saw this year and is going after some guys with some raw arm talent.

Raw prospect, threw 83% fastballs last year, but added a changeup to his arsenal. If they bring the fastball usage down and mix up with the secondaries, they might have something on their hands. 97 mph is already the hardest thrower we have, can’t hurt to develop him into something.

Nailed it ^^^
I'll gladly take a 87 rated top prospect that's played big league ball 2 years. 9th
97 don't mean anything if you can't command it or keep the hitter off balance. If it doesn't have movement, he'll pitch BP. Got to throw strikes. But he could start mid-week games and blow past most of our early season teams... and that gives him a chance to develop.
Reminds me of a Reed Garris

This is EXACTLY what we need. Not some quirky off-speed guy from New York who throws an 89 MPH fastball. A former highly-rated prospect from Alabama by way of Georgia who throws hard and has proven velo. The article said it well: "A power right-hander." It might not be fancy, but that's ok. What we need is real power arms, and this dude seems to be exactly that. He has some earlier background as a 2-way player as well, which suggests he has good athleticism. I know the potential drawback is the lack of usage, but you knew that was probably gonna be the case. We're not gonna be able to just poach big-name pitchers from SEC schools. They need to be guys with some motivation to leave, such as playing time, which is likely the case with this guy. But those are the best candidates to target right now, so well done to the staff. Now, let's keep it going! I'd like to see them add several more guys like this.
