Why so it can go in Dabo’s pocket? He ain’t spending it where he should, the recruiting trail. He might spend it on a swing set to go with the slide.

This is correct. Dabo shouldn't command the salary he does. He's not earning it right now. You have to post to play and you would think he'd adapt to modern times instead of being stubborn.

Really? It took eight months to decide to play closer to home’. Wake up, Larry Ellison founder of oracle just pledgref $10m to Michigan to get the #1 qb! And they are looking for more talent in the sec and acc. The northeast schools have a large alumini base and more than a few billionaires! We have enough to field a good fcs or club team! LSU could not beat u of m for the #1 qb and Alabama and Uga have lost recruits too. Clemson football outlook looks dim.

Totally a financial decision . He was getting $50K from us to come “prove he’s worth more”. GT offered him $2.5M just to show up. CFB is truly in a sorry state.

This starts with clients who want to hire an attorney to help them put some coin in their pocket. Not a bad idea since revenue generation would be impossible without them. The NCAA could have delayed this outcome if they were grounded in reality over the last decade. Instead, they insisted that college football operated in amateur fantasy land and we’ll dock you a scholarship if you serve a recruit 2 pieces of cake on a recruiting visit. You better have a billionaire benefactor if you want to be top 10 each year. Btw, it is ridiculous to have a biz model where the coach makes gobs of $ and the critical component of the revenue generation receives no direct comp. That’s not the American model. Eat what you kill. That’s how capitalism works.

Strange how so many conservative folks around here want such a liberal sports model and not capitalism. I just wants someone to have the guts and come out and admit why

Looks like we'll have a Division 3 recruiting class. This has to worry the heck out of the coaching and administrative staff. Big dollar boosters can't be happy! Think The Big 10 and SEC want Clemson now?

They want all this money why don’t we just have contracts then … and you pay whatever back if you transfer like the nfl if that’s all it’s becoming … how do the athletes have all the power here it’s impossible for coaches to recruit and blaming Dabo makes zero sense.. he’s in a bad position and any kid that decommits from Clemson to go play at freakin GT should tell you something haha there has to be rules to this crap man this is becoming ridiculous and the portal had absolutely nothing to with these situations before you countering Dabo hasn’t changed … portal and nil for high school kids is compelling diff

Were illegal for recruiting that we weren’t doing it (at least brazenly) but now that it’s above board we need to get on the wagon.
Our lack of depth is woefully apparent and is only going to get worse with situations like this. We’re losing players to teams that never could have dreamed of flipping our guys left and right now.
The guys are going to get paid, and the family strategy is great and all but at the end of the day it’s about the $$$.
Dabos stubbornness is the only thing that’s standing in the way of where we are and being elite again. He’s proven he can do it his way before, but times have change and his way needs to evolve

Just a microcosm of our society these days. All me-me. Parents aren’t teaching these kids what Commitment means and that you shouldn’t say it unless you are FULLY committed. Otherwise, they’re just using these schools by going back on their word. Sorry, but I’ll say it like it really is: This dud of an individual and his parents/advisors, along with the others who decommit from us or any other school, morally and ethically ain’t worth ****. (And save me “they’re only kids and don’t know better” bs or “it’s a free market out there” blah blah… Legit biz people don’t pull this crap and if they do, they’re not in biz for long.)

Society has always been the same. People have always wanted better pay and went where they could make more money for similar jobs. BS. Not in my world if you’re morally sound. I have no problem jumping ship “only if” you didn’t “commit”. But these kids are committing, so they can hold the school hostage until something better comes along. That’s what’s BS and no legit person does this. The more it happens and becomes “acceptable”, we will continue to see our society crumble. No more honor in words.

Um literally every “biz” runs like this. Employees are at will and can be fired on a whim likewise employees can quit and get a new job as they please. It’s a companies role to stay competitive with the market to retain employees. Just having a nice culture isn’t enough.
The issue at Clemson isn’t keeping up with compensation rates of our competitors, we’re throwing pizza parties and advertising a family atmosphere while everyone else is recruiting with cash. Then we’re blaming parents instead of looking in a mirror and realizing we’re the ones to blame for these kids committing elsewhere. This is simple economics

And I will argue all these other schools that “give in” to this ridiculous practice, don’t give a crap about the development of the person. Just look at the quality of the kids we bring in. #1 or #2 year in and year out with academic graduation rates. You act like our “family atmosphere” doesn’t mean anything. It means everything for an individual’s lifetime. The tide will eventually turn. Just have to weather the storm.

I’d rather go 8-4 and graduate 99% than win a natty and graduate 47%. After all, they are called “STUDENT ATHLETES “ and 100 out of 105 players will not play beyond college!

Ga Tech is one of the most poorly run programs in P4. Brent Key is a lousy program leader. This is directly from one of his key staff members. His 1st year offensive coordinator is already looking for an out.

LSU just lost a QB commit to another college that is paying him $12mil. That's to a high school QB who has never played a down in college. I believe LSU had gotten to an $8mil offer, but couldn't do more than that. The money these kids is being paid has nothing to do with coaching salaries. There's a fund to pay them from, and I guess ours isn't big enough. So if you want to complain, complain to the supporters who either can't or won't "pony up" enough money to make us competitive. Needless to say, this has gotten totally out of hand and the NCAA needs to be the one to do something about it. As for our future, maybe this will force Dabo to go to the portal where the cost may be a little less and the proven quality of the players will be better known. Just my thoughts.

Tae, if getting to the NFL is your main goal you just screwed up. GT is a great engineering school, which Clemson is too but Dabo helps build young boys like you into a Man. If you had signed with Clemson you would not have regretted it, but GT I am not so sure unless your plans are to be an engineeer.

It’s one thing to lose a player to Texas, but this year and now we’re losing them to Georgia Tech and Duke, and I’m sure there’s someone I’m missing on.

The AD knows ALL bout NIL money and we will be competitive. Some of these schools can spend only so much. They give a big signing bonus to one kid, what do the others think? Also, what if you put in a whole ton of money and the kid is a bust? It’s also likely that we will be putting in some revenue sharing deal. Personally, someone goes back on their word makes me want to shy away from them. There have to be some contracts ie-I don’t like it here-off to the portal I go!

2.5 million reasons I can think of
Nov 24, 2024, 12:01 PM

Cars, Women(sorry ladies-not intended as a negative toward you)-he’s 18. An 18 year old man\boy cab be, quite frankly, the stupidest creature to ever walk God’s green earth. It’s been a while but I remember. Not all-but some like this guy. He blows out a knee he’ll be just a number on a page probably without a college education and all the money friends have flown the coop. You think about it, it’s a sad state of affairs. Dabo remains one who tries to keep an oasis (for lack of a better word) of family and decency-where former players are honored, remembered, helped. They were given direction, principles and stayed at a place that mostly re-enforced those values. While unfair, that probably doesn’t happen too much in the big city or a lot of places. This generation is going to have a whole different set of problems With which to contend.

I think that after a recruit makes a public "commitment " to a head coach at a school that they should not be allowed to make official visits to other schools or be contacted by other schools. yes they can still de-commit but maybe it would stop s many from making a commitment before they are sure. Yes I agree that schools are now biding for recruits and a recruit takes the best deal at the time so secure a spot until a better deal comes along. This NIL stuff will destroy college football as we know it. Theres got to be a better way but I don't know what it is. Pandoras box has already been opened. We have limits on scholarships. Why not limits on how much NIL money a school can spend in a year or even a limit on what an individual athlete can get. This would level the playing field a bit.
