When amateur football was worth following and was exciting.

I rember how high school rivalry games were big deals for the whole city. All across the nation, there was always that one big rivalry. Usually the last game of the regular season. Most of the games were played on Thanksgiving day. After lunch. In Greenville, SC IT WAS Greenville vs Parker. In college it was Clemson vs USCOOT. MANY OF THE GAMES ARE STILL PLAYED, BUT I DON'T THINK WITH THE SAME INTENSITY OR THE SAME DISLIKE FOR THE OTHER TEAM.

I THINK YOU YOUNGSTERS ARE MISSING WHAT US OLD TIMERS WERE ABLE TO ENJOY IN THE HEYDAY OF AMATEUR SPORTS. AND I LOVED ATTENDING THE MILL HILL BASEBALL GAMES BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT MILL TEAMS. SOME HAD PRETTY NICE BALLPARKS. THE AGE OF INNOCENCE. AND THE COMPANY STORE DID OWN YOU.

I’ve heard those Parker/Greenville games played at Sirrine on Thanksgiving were legendary.

Thanksgiving games in Furman’s former Sirrine Football Stadium on Cleveland St in Greenville..and even saw Clemson play Furman in that tiny high school size stadium where the Paladins galloped their white Stallion back & forth..

But no, these days are more thrilling & modern since NIL, Transfers & tons of $ make it so!

LOL, kidding!

When these kids are coming from all around the country more and more, it would make sense that they're not as informed. Not to mention willingness by most kids to be willing to drag up for quarter more an hour...

I remember the days you're talking about, and yes it was much more intense...........there is "something" missing..........that something in my opinion is the mystique and mystery.......of having to be there in person to experience something first hand with limited info or knowledge.

The information age (knowledge) tech age will never allow that to happen again......at least not in our lifetimes probably.......however the earth will return to a more innocent time eventually but only after the end of the age. dont wanna get on the soapbox too much , but it did say (the good book) knowledge would increase in the last days in conjunction with deceit lawlessness and wickedness.
