Both those men knew God. They were extraordinary Bible scholars who God used to made deep and long lasting impressions on me. I liked Paul Harvey too.

those who are given the gift to teach. Teaching is great but can not replace preaching.
About 30 yrs ago my children's mother was trying to get me to watch Joyce Myers, the lady with the TV show. I resisted due to the teachings of Paul and his description of church leaders, pastors, bishops and deacons.
After she insisted I finally heard the woman preach. I'd spent my entire life believing that God called only men to hold the office of preacher. Ms Myers was great. She was dead on the money with everything she said. I was confused and conflicted so I went to my go to.
I asked God about it. Some few days later while reading the Bible I came across this:
2 Timothy 4:
"1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
While Ms Myers is a great teacher, truthful, honest and sincere in her work, her gift is not preaching, she is a teacher.
Typically, I forget more of what God teaches me but at times like I endured over the women preacher thing with my wife I certainly remembered His response to my question. God works that was to me. The more confused I am the better I remember, the longer I remain confused the better I remember God's solution to my dilemma.

I am not familiar with either of the two guys you and ClemsonRangers® mention, but there is one I really like, maybe for the same reasons. I came to faith after J. Vernon McGee died, yet years later I began to enjoy his "Thru The Bible" series, which is still being broadcast. Simple but informed, straightforward but insightful, and truthful but uplifting.
