Clemson, SC—Clemson graduate student Andrew Swanson has been selected to compete in the NCAA Regional Golf tournament at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Virginia. The 54-hole event will run May 12-14. Swanson will attempt to qualify through the regional for the NCAA National tournament that will be held May 23-26 at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, CA.
Swanson led the Clemson team in a number of categories this year, including stroke average (71.41), Top 10s (4), birdies (118), rounds in the 60s (10), and under-par rounds (15). The native of Bluffton, SC has played his best golf of the season in the spring. He finished in the top 15 in each of his last four tournaments, including a ninth-place at the recently completed ACC Tournament in Bowing Green, KY.
Eleven times this year he was Clemson’s top golfer in team rounds, and had the best score in six of the 10 tournaments.
An outstanding student who received his undergraduate degree in mathematical sciences last spring, he won the 2024 NCAA Elite 90 Award for having the top GPA among golfers who participated in the 2024 NCAA National Championship tournament. This spring he was a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, which goes to the top student-athlete in Division I college golf.
For his career, Swanson has a 71.80 stroke average for 106 rounds in 36 tournaments. He has 27 rounds in the 60s, 42 rounds under par, and nine top 10 tournament finishes.
