(I use the term Blue Blood loosely with Penn State) ...

Will Cinderella teams ever be able to compete in this format ?

Sun Devils going to overtime with Texas in not competing? Or do you mean win the whole thing? If thats the case then no, it won't happen.

ASU competed pretty well against Tex, bad call probably cost them the game

I cannot believe that some on here believed that was not targeting. Watched the replay and dang that is textbook targeting.

That was the guise of the expanded playoff. But it was never intended for the smaller programs to have a legitimate shot at winning it all or even making the playoff. The media will tell you that was the purpose, but as you see now they are trying to change the seeding requirements which I somewhat agree with as Oregon had the most difficult path to the next round and they lost as a result.

Def a huge advantage to get the home field or bye that’s for sure. Always seemed to be a game or 2 in the 4 team format that was sideways score wise, so had a feeling that it would be the same and then some with it going to 12.

Going to have to purchase the best prospects to be a legitimate contender. Competitive equity has never been a real thing but it’s so far out of whack now I do not believe it can be fixed. Too many stupid people making the decisions. All about the money. I know it always has been but not at the degree it is now.

So far the bye has been a death knell.

Same blue bloods win it all. We get all excited about a few 1st & 2nd round upsets but the national champions have all been the traditional bluebloods

Many non-blue bloods have won within the last 40 years:

Arkansas
Arizona
Baylor
Florida (2x)
Georgetown
Louisville (2x)
Maryland
Michigan State
Syracuse
UNLV
Villanova (3x)
Virginia

What do you consider blue blood if not Villanova, Syracuse, Gtown...

Villanova is borderline. Georgetown and Syracuse are not close. Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, UCLA, Michigan. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone. UCONN.

I could see teams like them eventually winning one.

I guess it depends on how you define blue blood

Penn State is as blue as it gets and that is not surprising.
