My guess is the great majority of players now make more $$ in college than they ever will in the Pros, including some of the best college players.
Wrong or right, that is the landscape.
A 5th or 7th year can reap rewards as these guys are older, stronger, more experienced than an 18 year old.

You had to sit out a year, but you did not lose a year of eligibility. Basically, you had five years to play four years .....meaning you could redshirt a year and then still have four years. If you transferred, say after your redshirt year, you would then have to sit out a year and then only have three left, but that is because you redshirted which would count toward your five years. Now, who knows what the rules are after seeing players in their 7th season.
