Clemson, SC—Clemson graduate Annabelle Pancake got her summer off to a great start on Friday (May 31) by winning the Sea Island Women’s Amateur at the Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Ga.

Pancake, had rounds of 68-66-70 for a six-under par 204 for the 54 holes at the fourth annual event that features 83 of the top women’s amateur golfers in the nation. Pancake was extremely consistent as she played her first 41 holes without a bogey and finished with nine birdies and just three bogeys for the 54 holes.

Pancake won the tournament by four shots over Laney Frye of the University of Kentucky, who finished second for the fourth straight year.

it was Pancake’s first event since leading Clemson to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Women’s Tournament in Carlsbad, California on May 21. She finished 10th at the ACC Championship, second at the NCAA Bryan Regional, and seventh at the NCAA National Tournament to conclude here four-year Clemson career.

She became the first Clemson women’s golfer to post top 10 finishes in all three of those postseason tournaments in the same year. She finished this year with a 71.27 stroke average, best in Clemson history.

The native of Indiana was a two-time first-team All-ACC performer for the Tigers and was named an honorable mention All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association this season.

Many of Pancake’s Clemson teammates competed in the event. In addition to Pancake’s victory with a 204 score, Isabella Rawl finished 35th with a 219 score, Katherine Schuster was 43rd at 221, Chloe Holder shot 223 to finish 50th, Sydney Roberts was 59th at 226, and Ivy Schulze was 76th at 238.

This was the first of five tournaments that comprise the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series (WEAGS), which is in its first year of competition. Pancake plans to continue playing as an amateur until LPGA qualifying begins in August.
