of the total points were from 3 pointers. Is that considered normal (if there is a normal in college basketball) and should we expect that trend going through the season?

Based on the last couple of years I would expect that to continue, especially if Heminway stays healthy.

That’s a big part of why we have been inconsistent. When the 3s are falling we are unbeatable, but when they are not we go into big scoring droughts.

I would not say unbeatable. I mean i imagine for any team if the 3s are dropping they have a good shot at winning a game

Considering we didn’t make the tourney against an historically awful SOS last year, we’re going to have to improve both to meet the ACC championship / Elite 8 expectations established for this season. Note - I’m making no comment as to the likelihood of either.

Extrapolating from the numerous posters who have claimed this is our best team ever. And yes, at least one poster has said it explicitly.

No, I mean extrapolated. Which is pretty big word for you. Let me help. We have won an ACC regular season title. We have made an ACC tourney final. So winning an ACC tournament would meet the “best ever” expectation. Making an Elite 8 would work depending on performance as we did not acquit ourselves well in our previous appearance. Why are you trying to start fights? I’ve said nothing negative about our team.

What parade was rained on. Saying that we’ll have to shoot a higher 3 pt % than last year, which we did last night, to eclipse our performance last year? That’s raining on a parade? Because that’s the immediate thread you’re in. Seems like actual basketball talk.

They want to create a super high expectation so that if we don’t make it they can continue to talk about how awful Brad is.
Never mind the fact that we’ve only been to one Elite Eight in our history, and it was over 40 years ago.

I would also like to see Clemson get into the paint more than that.
However, the way Winthrop was guarding Clemson was basically demanding that we shoot threes. They were REALLY packing it in. Not full Tony Bennett "pack line," but they were determined not to let us dribble penetrate or post up. They were more than content to let us shoot threes and try to close out on shooters.
In short, I don't think you'll see that every game, but I think that's what last night's game demanded. And just like in football, you should never chase balance just for balance's sake. You shouldn't shoot more threes because you haven't shot enough of them any more than you should avoid threes because you've taken "too many." It's all about the quality of the shot.

And over the course of an entire season, that has been one of our biggest problems under Brownell.
Because you just can’t count on it consistently, unless you’re like a Rick Pitino Kentucky team from the 90s. We’ll have some days where we are on fire and everything looks great. But it’s not sustainable throughout an entire season.

but also recognizes that we have good shooters and wants our players to take them when they get opportunities.
Our shot selection from three was good overall last night. A few were taken out of the flow of the offense, but that's going to happen - especially early in the season when we are getting new players acclimated and getting our timing down.
We spend a lot of time working on threes. Many of our players shoot 100 shots each morning. The goal is to make 60 of them, and plenty of them make considerably more than that.
One morning last year, Hunter Tyson made 95 of 100. That's incredible.

30.2% doofus.
You can say anything you want; you can deep dive on the ostrich imitation; you can even lie through your teeth. But it matters not.
The kid has shot 30.2% from 3 over the course of 87 college games and 417 3-point shots in the last 5 years. FACT.
And you're going to sit here and tell people that I am attacking you by giving a stat of truth? LOFL.
Actually, if you will read, I attacked your supposition, and then I attacked every other Brownell supporter in the Clemson "family" who appear to be devoid of any capability to accept facts for what they are.
But hey - enjoy your season. I have no doubt that you'll get exactly what's coming to you.

Looking at our roster, Giarard and Hemenway are both 3 point specialists. Clark, PJ, and Chase Hunter are all capable shooters. And based off last night Schefflin and RJ Godfrey improved their shots this offseason. Expect a lot of threes this year.

Last year we took a larger percentage of 3's because we were the second best team in the ACC IN 3pt shooting. We were 4th in the ACC in 3 point shooting as a percentage of total field goals taken. If we shot the league average, we would have taken 2 less 3 pointers per game.
The year before we were 8th out of 15 in 3pt shooting as a percentage of total field goals taken.
Anybody that says that we take way more 3 pointers than other teams and its a main reason for inconsistency doesn't know what they are talking about. These are the same people that said that brownell should have told our 40% 3pt shooter that is now in the NBA to not take wide open 3 pointers if he missed a few in a row.

now most teams are shooting more 3's than 2's and therefore missing more shots and creating a game that is more unwatchable by the year.
I do enjoy a good pick-n-roll or a nice backdoor cut...or maybe even a drive and pass to a cutter for the easy 2.
But why not jack up another 3
I am being partially honest, I love Clemson basketball but the overall game of basketball has been changed in such a way that most fundamentals mean nothing.... I have noticed guys are hitting their free throws at the highest average since before this farce of a game began in or around 2008

The fundamentals don't "mean nothing" just because the game has evolved towards more efficiency offensively. You may not like it, but the 3 point shot is the most valuable shot on the court. The "fundamentals" of any game are geared around producing the most efficient form of it. It's not that the fundamentals mean nothing, it's that the fundamentals for modern basketball are not the same as they were in the 80s and 90s.

Where am I defending anyone.? You have all these imagined beefs with avatars on a message board. I’m pointing out how dumb you’re acting. You certainly don’t seem like someone that actually derives any pleasure from Clemson sports. No one has said anything negative about this team or the one game we’ve played in your up in here trying to start fights with multiple posters.

Since they use his talking points I’d say yes, he’s encouraging it, and I don’t need to provide a link. You don’t win an argument by sticking that at the end of every post. Yes, the overwhelming bulk are trolls but there are more than few that are actual Clemson fans doing the same. You’ve seen his negative attacks against the football program. Why in your mind is that totally acceptable but anyone who has expressed any dissatisfaction with basketball deserve to be hounded relentlessly by you.

Can you send a link of a recruit "using his talking points", or are you just making stuff up.
Are you seriously comparing posting something negative on a clemson message board with going on twitter and talking smack about a potential transfer in the comments on one of his posts? The player locked all comments on the post after nc tigs started talking smack. Sad, but im glad you are playing "whatabout" to defend nc tigs.

I said tweeted at recruits not by recruits. You guys stumble over yourselves so quickly to have the last word you don’t even know what you’re saying. I’m not in the cut and paste business and the last time I put any time into answering a direct challenge from you ignored until I reposted it for at least the 5th time then you completely misrepresented what it says. So what’s the point. You won’t even call out JK for his blatant trolling of the football board. You have no credibility whatsoever. If you were driven by any principle your outrage would be equal. Yet it only has time for me and NCTigs - makes a lot of sense. And, despite his definitive anti-Brownell takes, actually posts relevant information about our basketball team that is totally disconnected from his opinion of Coach Brownell. But you champion breaking board rules and doxxing him along with Shack. I have no idea if it’s his account because first and foremost, I don’t care and it would be against board rules to affirm such a thing. What relevant info have you ever provided other than “I think we’ll be improved” “I think this is our best team under Brownell” “I’m okay with firing him if we don’t make the tournament” “you’re an idiot if you think we should fire him despite the fact we didn’t make the tournament”. You, over and over, for at least the last 4 years.

I didn’t allege that he did it directly. How many accounts are you fighting with at once on this message board? How many of those fights are based on blatant lies on your part. It’s a really weird way to engage with something you supposedly like or care about. JK is a pos troll and the only reason you even noticed my account is because you chose to take up for him.

I understand that you have difficulty keeping your narratives straight. You’re actively engaging in like 5 fights simultaneously right now. All personal. None having anything to do with Clemson sports. But you definitely have the high road.

Lmao Tyler. If i got on twitter and smack talked our potential football recruits, you would be pissed and you would call me a terrible fan that doesnt have clemson's best interest in mind.
You are ok w/ nc tigs doing this in basketball because you want our team to fail to get rid of brownell. You are a pathetic hypocrite.

Have you ever considered not making #### up ? I haven’t defended NCTigs. I also don’t know if that was him on Twitter. You seem to be following Shack’s lead on that one and he has a crazy number of vendettas going on this board. He’s started up on OleMike being DSP now, which seems completely mental to me. There is no similarity in the way they post. I’ve accused CM Shack of doxxing. I’ve accused both of you of being hypocrites. Which you are both doubling down on big time in this thread. Neither of you seem capable of taking a pause and saying “oh wait, they haven’t really said anything negative about this game and maybe we should retreat.” The most I did was poke fun at posters for contradicting themselves about the expectations for this team (re: 3 point shooting) and what is and isn’t typical. That wasn’t insulting our performance - that’s making fun of the need to shoehorn every aspect of a single games performance into a pre written narrative about then team.
By the way, Brownell is 13 for 13 in non-con season home openers. He opened with a conference game once. He won those games by an average of 21 points. There is nothing meaningful to be gleamed from that game. Any attempt, either way, is pure posturing.

When your response to cm shack posting about nc tigs talking crap to players and transfers on twitter is, "Because no one has ever copied someone else verbatim somewhere else on the internet.", and then minimizing his act by comparing it to JK posting on tigernet, then yes you are defending nc tigs. Try and keep up.

I can’t help it if you want to jump to that conclusion but shack likes to draw lots of lines between different accounts. I have no reason to believe he’s doing any different here. My comment is only incidentally about NCTigs. It was directly about the shack’s rational for drawing conclusions.

The Warriors offense was very fun to watch

they ran alot of off ball screens, back door cuts, etc. That offense wasn't stagnant at all.
The biggest offenders of the "one guy with the ball and four others standing around at the 3 pt line" were Lebron and James Harden.

LeBron was never really the center of a so-called "heliocentric" pace/space offense. Harden was the "worst" but also prime Harden on those Rocket teams was a sight. It's not often you have a top 5 scorer and top 5 passer within the same player with an entire offense designed solely around them.
Lots of those offenses are going away though. The Mavs have done way less every since they landed Kyrie and Snyder isn't going to run the Hawks through Trae like McMillan was. The current #### seems to be trending back towards spread two man games - with Jokic and Murray as probably the best in the game right now.

Can you point to my criticism of this team since the start of the season? I’ve made fun of some bloviating in this thread. And I’ve questioned how good a team Winthrop was. None of that is a criticism of Brownell or any players and I’ve made no criticism or analysis of the game whatsoever. Why are you so unable to resist conflict even when there is absolutely none? Why are you so deeply hypocritical in your stance towards football and basketball?

What does any answer matter to you. I will be at the UNC game. I will be at the USC game. I have only missed a handful of Clemson/Carolina football, basketball, or baseball games in the last 30+ years. My first football game was the blowout of Wake Forest in 1981. I’ve been at every ACC championship game (that technically includes basketball). I’ve been to multiple playoff and national title games. I’m fortunate to have a standing offer for seats in the Courtside Club for basketball games. But, anyone can buy as good a seat as they want to any game. It just costs money.
