With the conclusion of yesterday's events, all the remaining Clemson action in the trials will now be in Jamaica.

Marie Forbes is underway right now in the women's discus. Marie is still a current Tiger, as she just finished up her junior collegiate season this year.

Natoya Goule will be running in the women's 800 meters at 9:30 PM.

This will be directly followed by Tarees Rhoden in the men's 800 meters at 9:40 PM.

Interesting to me how track and field are mostly college athletes trying out where gymnasts are usually not. Two different sports and paths.

Most of the world class womens gymnasts are too young for college

I guess that has to do with size; I don’t know. I did notice more women in the late teens early 20s at the US trial; I wonder if there is a shift in the sport. Perhaps NIL has something to do with it? Sunni Lee for example might not have ended up at Auburn if the NCAA rules had prevented her from profiting from her gold medal fame.

there do seem to be a fe going to college in this trial. Probably because of NIL. Great athletes. Probably the best pound for pound. Much of what they do you can't even comprehend

Success! Natoya and Tarees are national champs!

Natoya Goule and Tarees Rhoden are Jamaican national champions in the 800 meters!

The women's section was unusual because only 2 athletes actually ran in the final. Apparently there were a couple of competitors who scratched due to injury, so that explains part of it, but that was a remarkably thin field even with that, and Natoya expressed this herself in her post-race interview. But regardless, Natoya, who has been the best Jamaican woman in this event for years, won the race comfortably over her only challenger Kelly Ann Beckford who runs collegiately for Houston. Goule ran a time of 1:59.06, which is under the Olympic standard, so she will be headed to Paris for the Olympic Games.

The men's field was much more conventional, with 8 competitors running in the event. Rhoden ran a great race, sitting in second the whole way before speeding past Navasky Anderson, the defending national champion and national record holder, in the final 100 meters to pull the upset and secure the win. (Tarees entered the event seeded 2nd behind Anderson, with a difference of 0.4 seconds in their PR's.) Rhoden's finish time today was 1:45.94. His fastest time this season is 1:45.70, which is not below the Olympic standard, so it's still not certain whether or not he will be able to go to the Olympics. I'll try to keep an eye out for news on that and let y'all know if I hear one way or the other. Either way, really cool to see him wearing his Clemson jersey out there while winning the national title.

They haven't given updates yet on the discus, so I'm not sure how Marie Forbes did, but I'll try to find out about that as well.
