Novel Idea?

With all of the money that is flying around college sports,ie:football or any others who are getting paid, why not include production into the formula of how much a player gets paid? These players are graded every day on their performance/production and it should be very easy to develop a formula to include that into the "pay for play" that we now have. We certainly have plenty of assistants and that could be a part of their assignment. In the business world, if you want to see performance/production pick up tie it into pay.

Nobody really knows yet how revenue sharing will work but it may mean every player on a team gets the same share and production most certainly has nothing to do with it. NIL is based on reputation and production is part of that but it would be prior production not current week to week.

Revenue sharing has already started. The school knows exactly how it works.

Maybe coaches and assistant coaches (and in our case friends and family too) get paid on their performance per game too? Not just millions whether we win or lose .. maybe then an initiative to coach and perform better ..

The closest I could see this happening is essentially like coaches incentives:

Base: $50K/game guaranteed
Conference Champion: $100K
Playoff Win: $100K
....
....
National Champion: $250K

You try to push this on a proven player and they're jumping on the bus to the team that pays them more guaranteed....

Base would have to be market value. Bonus structure would need to be paid out of the schools' additional revenue for participation and success in the CFP.

Lets just take one sample on your suggestion. I don't know how a WR who is only targeted 3 times and makes all 3 reception is graded vs a WR who is targeted 8 times and makes 6 receptions. Then how do you account for the YAKS, TDs, blocks, etc. And the guy who they decide gets less $$$, he's mad at the QB and coach for not being targeted more. And then there's always the possibility that the QB cuts a deal to get some of the WR's $$$ by throwing to him more, but we all know that would NEVER happen in today's sports world. And we haven't even talked about the affect this would have in a locker room. Potentially a good idea but the Devil in this would definitely be in the details

I think the problem with all this is that . . .

no matter how sensible it is from value and investment and cost-watching standpoints, so long as another team is allowed to take the risk and offer more with no performance strings attached, they can undercut the offer and lure the guy away to somewhere else where he can get more money up front w/ no strings attached. I don't know how you keep incentives like that in place without that risk.

I guess you could

offer some base guaranteed amount and make the incentives extra, but then it might just be a market decision between your base amount and the other schools base amount.
