This will be a historically catastrophic storm. Yo Brett, i hope you reconsider trying to ride this one out. This storm has the potential to reshape the florida coastline.

I'm 40 miles from coastline.

Right now it is projected the eye will go 20-30 miles south of me. If so, I will get 12 hours of 60+ mph wins with gusts up to 80.

I;m ready to go. Just head up to Alabama or Georgia and have a nice little "vacation."

But, my wife caught whatever it was that I got last Saturday. She doesn't feel like traveling. Said she would rather just stay here and ride it out and deal with loss of power.

Our house is strong enough to handle the winds. No trees near us. We are projected to get 8-14 inches of rain. That will cause localized flooding, but not in my neighborhood.

Thanks for being concerned, but we will be fine. Just a nuisance. Nothing like what those guys on the coast will get and nothing like what the Carolinas got last week.

I’m guessing the inventory of generators in FL was depleted weeks ago.

in the main part of florida, southern storms always hit more north

in the oanhandle and gulf coast, storms always hit more east

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And major hurricanes coming towards GA and SC seem to always be about

100 miles further east. All we heard prior to Helene was the path would be just east of Atlanta...yeah, over a 100 miles east of Atlanta! I remember Hugo in 1989...all we heard was, g0ing to hit landfall in Savannah, maybe as far north as Hilton Head! It landed in Charleston!

We’re in JAX and weather channel is saying to still prepare for 70+mph wind gusts and storm surges over 5 feet and localized flooding with heavy winds. We’re still under a hurricane warning here.

I really would consider bailing out to somewhere else out of the path of this thing. Being inconvenienced is one thing, possibly being dead is a whole nother thing. You don't get an OOPS, MY BAD and a mulligan from that one.

The model I seen today showed it going across Florida and out to the Atlantic but yes poor Florida is getting crushed again... I think Milton has Tampa in the crosshairs for their first direct hit since around 1921. Brett I’m certain you have more hurricane survival experience than me so I will just leave you to it…Stay safe & I hope all works out for the best.

Current prediction is Cat 3 at landfall.

Good read on why it intensified so fast a d why the wind speed will decrease but size will increase.

Hugo actually weakened before landfall if you look back at it, but it was devastating .

Katrina was a Cat5 while in the gulf and “eased up” to be at Cat3 at landfall. That didn’t turn out well.

It'll go down to possibly a Cat 3 by landfall, but yeah....crazy to think of anything in its path right now would be wiped off the face of the earth.

The same folks saying it will landfall as a 3 said it would max out at a cat 4

Hugo came through in September 1989, it still packed 90 mph winds when it got to us here in Orangeburg. It had made landfall around McClellanville with winds of 131 mph. I would NOT count on not being near the coast in Florida saving me from this monster storm. Get out of there, find a safe place out of the path to ride it out, and you can say I told you so to me later if where you would have been turns out to not get hit hard.
