The lineup vs ETSU: 1. #69 Noa Vukadin 2. Viktor Markov 3. #92 Wissam Abderrahman 4. Edoardo Lignerie 5. Marko Mesarovic 6. #96 Max Smith
- Markov being #2 as a Freshman is higher than i expected when he signed but he is showing his talent already. He is the tallest player on the team at around 6'4. (Clemsontigers does not list heights for tennis on the roster for some reason). Good to see a power player in the lineup as we have not had a tall power based player on a Clemson team for quite a while. If you follow tennis, a good comp for his style of play is Marin Cilic, especially the forehand stroke.
- Smith still at #6 surprised me some after he had the strongest fall on the team and is at #96 in the national singles rankings.
- Lignerie is the shortest player on the team at about 5'7 or 5'8 and is a scrappy baseliner. He was the only player to lose his singles match vs ETSU. But he has just come in from Italy this month so he needs to get used to the courts and atmosphere before you can really judge him yet.
- Doubles looked really sharp. Vukadin/Smith will be a top 10 combo in the nation and Max Damm was serving strong as he will be a good doubles specialist for the team this year.
- Nothing to really take from The Citadel match since they are one of the worst teams in D1. Only notable thing about that match was Romain Gales sliding into the lineup at #3. So still not sure where he will fit in as the season goes along.
- First real match of the year is at Memphis on Sunday. We lost to them 4-3 at home last year and they made the NCAA tourney 2nd round last year, so always a solid top 35 program who we need to start the year off by beating. I'll have more on that matchup later this week.
