anybody back in those days. Then, he left for greener $$$ with Texas, and UNC went back to oblivion. He never was able to find the same magic the second time around. I guess you can "never really go home again."

Yep…really no reason that they shouldn’t be able to field a top 10-15 every year in FB…the brand recruits itself and they have the donor/alumni base. Maybe bball just suffocates any and everything else.

football and basketball. There have been some brief exceptions like Florida when both Urban and Donovan were there, but generally schools have to choose one program or the other to devote the most resources to. UNCs #1 priority is the basketball program. They are going to make sure their basketball program is in the top 1% in terms of resources before they commit money to football.

Yes, it's basketball killing everything else.

They had a top 10 football team one year and all the reporters stopped reporting on the team because preseason basketball practices had started.

Why would any football player want to play in front of empty stands?

They have the resources but even when they have good teams the stands are empty. Of course that doesn't seem to hurt Miami so who knows.

They have a long, long history of being a basketball program. Fans and alumni are a die hard basketball culture. That is never going to change.
