🤔.
Unless we turn the ball over (which we haven't done all season), I really don't see this being as one sided as many "experts" believe. Especially now that their number 1 receiving threat will be on the sideline.
Stop the run. Heat up Ewers and if he beats you consistently down the field then tip your hat.

Texas is going to run the ball on us
And Texas is going to stop us from running
That’s how you lose games by double digits
The only chance we have to keep it close is for Texas to play sloppy and turn the ball over and for us to play our A game for 4 quarters.

Dude, if we play out A game for 4 quarters we win by 2 TDs (our A game being the first quarter against SMU). I’m not saying we do that because we haven’t all season but that’s reality and if you don’t think so you need to cheer up and not be so negative on our guys. Otherwise, we need the ball to bounce our way a few times.
Also, maybe the Texas defense is legit but who is the best offense they’ve played? It’s either UGA or a 6-6 Arkansas team…..let’s not pretend they played a gauntlets row of offenses in the SEC with their schedule….

Is our A game possible without a healthy Mafah? Seriously curious if that's even a possibility. We have shown the ability to go over 100yds since his injury. Texas is not the team to be 1 dimensional against.

No one can predict the score on this game. It called guessing. I believe Clemson will win because: Cade is a better QB than Ewers. He will run and create a new rushing record for QB’s. Our receivers are going to light up Texas, especially Antonio Williams, Tyler Brown , and our All American Freshmen. Phil Mafah will show heart and run great.

Texas plays plenty sloppy as it is. Quinn Ewers is good for 3 turnovers (a fumble and 2 picks) a game.

This is it!! It's simple and folks who normally point tbis out are in denial for this game. To win in the playoffs you must run tbe ball and stop the other team from running. That's been the case for 50 years. Unfortunately for our Tigers, we are not great are either of thise things this season. Barring a miracle we are 1 and done.

Vegas is looking at it from a talent gap standpoint, and they are way more talented and have depth also. Their D IS top 3 in some major categories and we have no speed at runnung back and essentially no threats in the run game other than Klubnik. They have a huge advantage in coaching on both sides of the ball. This is a terrible matchup for us, it will get out of hand early on. As Tiger fans, we are hoping for something that we have yet to see all year against good teams and at this point not sure why we are expecting different results or our coaches to all of a sudden get smarter.

Don’t really get the talent gap thing. They have the 4th ranked roster and we have the 5th ranked roster. Both offensive lines are elite. Their defensive line is better but we do have 2 elite DL in Woods and Parker. Capehart has also been coming into his own. We have elite receiver talent. Elite CB in Terrell. I would say RJ Mickens is great. Sammy Brown is quickly becoming elite. Our greatest deficiency is depth on the d line, hurt running backs, and no defensive adjustments

terrell is not playing great at all, Ewers against our secondary is scary right now. call it talent or whatever but fact is they have top 3 defense in all categories and we have a 60th ranked defense so there is a major gap there .

stats when games were decided/the bench was in. You want to compare teams - use analytics like SP+ or FPI as they provide a much better though still not perfect insight. This is similar to data models the coaches/NFL etc. use as well as playoff committee.
Texas O: 8/17 Texas D: 2/1
Clemson O: 16/9 Clemson D: 22/18
Close enough that it will come down to some individual matchups. Can Parker or some blitzes get home on a fairly immobile QB and create a TO or 2 to make this an even game on paper? Can our run game be just enough to sustain some drives instead of putting a thin unit back on the field over and over till it breaks. If our run game is zilch then we must quickly pivot and be highly efficient in the short passing game over the middle which puts the ball in jeopardy more but you have to take risks at this point and you have to make quick decisions to pivot for better or worse. No time for stubbornness.

Their coaching staff is far superior to the Clemson staff. That’s just a fact.
Dabo is a great CEO but he is not near the play caller of Sark. That’s just to start.

I think Parker is as good as Clelin possibly, but definitely equal to Bryant. At the other DE position we are lost in comparison obviously.

lightyears ahead of where Clelin was at that point in this career and I think already better overall. Parker doesn't have the same talent on the other side especially. Interior not quite as good but still very high level. He draws significant attention yet produces really good results. He has no backup to relieve him like previous Clelin teams, so impact eventually starts to slow down late in games - not his fault - lack of addressing talent depth the previous off-season. Hopefully we've learned from that.

Logan Rudolph and Justin Foster at one DE and Xavier Thomas at the other. Parker is obviously superior to all.
At DT, we started Tyler Davis/Jordan Williams and Nyles Pinckney. I could see an argument for Tyler Davis, but Woods is obviously ahead of the other two.

That's simply not true at all. They do not out talent us. Theyre only slightly ahead of us talent wise. They had the #4 most talented roster, and we had like #9. Thats extremely close. Closer than a number even suggests. Any top 10 team talent wise has the talent to beat another top 10 team. Especially if that talent is in the right spots. I think your point on RBs is correct, but the biggest issue to this game for me is coaching. If we play conservative on offense and soft coverage on defense, we lose. If we play wide @$$ open on offense, taking shots, pushing the ball DOWN THE FIELD, using our best playmakers, and not being predictable with playvalling, I truly believe we can score on anyone in the country. On defense if we attack like Venables, and actually bring pressure, and play the right guys (Sammy Brown, NOT Jaedyn Lukus, etc) then I think we are good enough to win.
But acting like Texas is some unbeatable team is hilarious to me. Texas A&M held them to 17 points. I say the score is in the mid to high 20s, with one team at the end making or not making a play to win/lose it.

true or not, the proof is in the pudding, our roster has not played like a top ten in terms of talent all year. Texas has 4 and 5 star talent in the 2 and 3 deep depth chart , and while we have some talent in the starting 11, the talent is just no there in the 2nd strings that are needed to provide depth and keep fresh bodies in the game for 4 quarters. This Clemson roster is not the 5 star loaded rosters of years past , and it has shown this year against good teams .

I don't disagree with that at all. I do think we've had guys disappear at times, like Barrett Carter against Usuck. I also don't think Texas is necessarily a properly measured team either. SMU was supposed to beat us as well, and we were supposed to beat SC. OSU was supposed to kill Michigan, and none of that happened. A lot of it is about matchups. I'm not sure how our matchups are going to go because I'm not sure what kind of playvalling will show up for us, and how good their team actually is. I mean Georgia wasn't really clicking and had a backup and still beat them despite an ugly pick at the end. Texas does y seem to have closing power yet, and we do sometimes. To me it's going to be close. I don't see this as some lopsided talent gap run em off the field type thing though.

This will be a game of matchups defensively...Sark likes to attack the perimeter with short and intermediate routes...then likes to go over the top trying to catch the safeties napping. The LBs and the interior DL will be huge this game.

Their offense and our offense are statistically the same, while our defense ranks in the 60s and theirs 3rd.
Regarding injuries, their 3rd best WR is out, and both our 1st and 2nd string RBs are either playing hurt or out.
12 is fair. We will need 3+ in the TO margin to stay competitive in this game.

Louisville is probably the closest comparison to the Texas offense that we've
Dec 20, 2024, 12:24 PM

seen, and we failed miserably against them. We did a decent job of taking away the pass, but then they just ran the ball at will on us.
Our offense also didn't do very well against the teams with top-30ish defenses. We scored 14 against South Carolina, 6 against Georgia, 24 against VA Tech (including 0 in the first half), and 21 against Louisville. The only good defense we did well against was SMU.
With that said, I do believe in our talent, and the first 3 quarters against SMU and South Carolina gives me hope as I've seen us play well enough to win a game like this. I personally don't think this Texas team is much better than either of those two teams. Texas is very good, but they don't have an elite offense. Their defense is also largely untested and showed they could give up some scores to competent QBs.
We will need to play a nearly perfect game to pull off the upset, but I don't think they will just completely dominate us.
