Idiotic question for which od be grateful for insight: coaching hires

Guys, I'm self employed, have been for the entirety of my professional life. Because of this om missing some insight some of you are sure to have on some level.

So, I'm Dabo and I need some help. I've coached my butt since almost this time last year. I've been involved with recruiting, name recognition, fundraising... I'm interested in what is going on on the NCAA and conference regarding rule changes/proposals. I want, and kinda owe my family
a vacation and I just ki da got rid of my DC and maybe some other staff..... how do I know where to begin searching? Anyone can point to successful coordinators at successful programs and say; I really think that guy could make a diff, but of course those guys are already well paid and likely seeking a HC slot. So where does Dabo begin to look? There is no DCs r us out there.

Every leader has replacements in mind for the key roles in their downline tree. It’s just part of the job.

Whether someone gets a new job, dies, wins the lottery, under performs…for any reason, you know where to go next when a change has to be made.

Are you talking about the coaching portal?

I agree that many successful DC would only move from their current position only for a head coaching job but not all. Some might move for more money or to a more prestigious program. Others may move due to personality conflicts with their current head coach. Until the new DC is announced, we won't know his motivation for doing so...

I'll try and give an answer.

Coaching is a community. Coaches know each other. They run into each other during off season coaching clinics, conference meetings, and other places. Over time (Dabo has been doing this for 30 years) you develop a circle of friends. Some even own vacation homes together. So, one place you can start is by talking to your friends in the coaching business.

All coaches have a short list "just in case" a change needs to be made. What if my DC gets a HC job? What if my LB gets a job as a DC? What if my OC decides it is time to retire? Etc. He watches a bunch of football and sees, in this case, defenses that impress him.

Dabo didn't just wake up a week ago and say, "I've got to fire Wes." He's probably been thinking about it for several months and made the decision some time ago.

He has "intermediators," people he can call and say, "What do you think about _________? Would he be interested? Can you contact his agent and just ask if he might be open to change?"

Those are some generalities. Hope it helped a little.
