in Istanbul must be less than 24 hours after Ukraine's attack on their strategic bombers, but apparently I'm too late. The talks are already completed, just over an hour after they started. Apparently there was some discussion on prisoner exchanges and on a subsequent meeting. Not super-productive but also not negative, from reports I've seen.

As an aside, I saw this quote from Zelensky (reportedly made today) that I think is spot on:
"The key to lasting peace is clear: Putin must get nothing that justifies his aggression. Any reward shows him that war pays off. If Putin decides who joins NATO or where NATO's infrastructure can be, his appetite for war will only grow."

I think that's spot on, and I would add that other antagonistic players would also be an issue - China with Taiwan. Iran in the ME. North Korea. That's why I'm so disheartened by Trump. His "Eh, look...they got a lot of land...ya gotta just concede that he was pretty cunning"* type of nonsense...this pure transactional world view...is so dangerous and short-sighted.

To be fair I doubt Ukraine would have the intelligence to pull of this attack without NATO or U.S. involvement.

It is hard to believe but this seems to be more of the trend.

The U.S. claims no prior knowledge of this attack or the Israeli beeper attack. Maybe it’s true, maybe not. But if true, it speaks to a lack of trust in America. That we will either sabotage it in our own interests or our Intelligence community has too many leaks.

So, who knows. All we can say for sure is that no one else claimed any involvement. Personally I find it easier to believe that Ukraine did this on their own than that the U.S. had involvement in a plan that took a year and a half of planning and no one ever leaked it.
