after exiting the interview tent yesterday after winning the FedEx St. Jude Classic. He looked on the verge of exhaustion and heat prostration. I have been there, and if you ever get heat prostration once, seems like you are a lot more susceptible to it in the future. (I don't know if that's medically correct or not, just going off my own experience).
He looked really, really weary. Since he is locked into the Tour Championship noq, it would not shock me if he takes the coming week off, even though it is the Playoffs. But, he probably does not want to stop playing, considering the roll he is on right now.

Did you ever see him drinking water? He put his hands in the water--not sure about drinking. Some of the players were drinking water after they played each hole.

enough to keep up with what he was losing to the heat. At one point in the interview tent, he took the cap off a bottle to take another sip, but put it back on to answer a question. He was really just about out of it in that interview. It was more like someone who had just survived a car wreck, than someone who had just won his second PGA tournament in a row.

I don't say he should skip the next tourney, but maybe some fluids via IV may be helpful. I know these things. I've had the "monkey on my back" several times due to heat, and it gets worse with age.

YEP THOSE PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES KNOW NOTHING ABOUT KEEPING THEMSELVES HYDRATED. THAT WAS I AM SURE THE 1ST TIME LUKEDOG HAD EVER PLAYED IN REALLY HOT WEATHER. LOL SMFH.

I wasn't sure that was from the sun or just from exhaustion. The day started off cloudy so maybe he didn't use sunscreen - the guy playing with him started out in all black and changed shirts after sun came out.

I was concerned going into the playoff holes that the younger guy had a tremendous advantage based on the way he looked.

or for heat and humidity. Memphis is much larger and crime ridden. I don't know the temperature there yesterday, but lived there 26 years (before global warming, LOL) and 95-100 degree heat and over 90% humidity were fairly common in August.

I couldn’t tell how much was just his personality and how much was due to the heat. He had a serious case of the swamp ### and had to be losing a ton of fluid. When my sons invite me to go play in that kind of heat, I usually bow out…I just can’t take it now and just don’t have fun.

I'm guessing that Lucas knows a lot more about how to keep hydrated than we do, since he has been playing these tournaments for twenty plus years. His caddie is also very experienced and I am sure reminded him constantly to keep hydrating. The cameras are focused on his golf, not necessarily on him drinking water, so I suspect that he had plenty of water. He also looked like he had plenty of sunscreen.

I think he'll be fine. He just grinded it out for 18 holes, with a one stroke lead, a two hour rain delay, in arguably the hottest and most humid day of a tour event, made unreal par saving puts, with no glove, at the ripe age of 43, out-performing much younger star players, and with soaking wet underwear. What a Tiger!
That's my takeaway.

He won't be taking the week off. This coming week is the last week to increase his Ryder Cup standing. He currently stands at #16. They take 12. Top 6 are automatic qualifiers, next 6 are Captain's choice (Zach Johnson).
This is likely his last real opportunity to play in the Ryder Cup, as he is getting older.

I’m sure Lucas spent Monday-Wednesday taking in all the fluids he could. Hydration is not something that can be done AS you exert in high humidity and temperatures. Sure, it helps . . . but the battle is won the day before.
When you have 4 days in a row of it, you are fighting a losing battle. You are simply trying to delay the inevitable. Lucas stated that he drank “a bottle of something EVERY hole”. I’m sure he knows his body best and how to keep it able to perform . . . He’s been doing this for over 20 years.
He was slathered in sunscreen folks . . . Could you not see it on his neck and the sides of his face?
As for taking the lid off his water during the interview, then replacing it without taking a swallow . . . Lucas has more decency about him than most . . . Answering the question presented to him was more important than his personal needs. He is aware of his needs and will take the necessary steps for his AND his family’s benefit. I am sure he has a doctor or trainer on call that will administer fluids (IV) as needed to help him recoup.
He will not miss next week . . . It is silly to think he would, voluntarily. The good news is, Chicago temperatures are forecasted to be in the mid 80’s (attachment).
Give Our TIGER a break . . . He is a “big boy” . . . He can take care of himself.
Congratulations once more Lucas!!! I’ll be glued to your performance this week as always!!!

I also play without a glove and wonder how he keeps the persperation under control on his hands.
Not sure Lucas needs the Rider Cup and their good old boy network. But, we haven't won on foreign soil in decades and a couple old heads like Lucas might just change things.

To be fair, you don't always know if how much you are drinking is enough. I live in Arizona so we drink a lot of water throughout the day but you can still become dehydrated very quickly and stress also takes it out of you which is tough to gage. He definitely looked like he was feeling it on the back nine.

Never said he didn't want to play in the Ryder cup ( sorry about the previous typo). Just my opinion that at his age he doesn't need the additional travel and exposure that younger players building their careers crave.
The Ryder cup has become a vehicle for advertising dollars and with LIV providing alternative income paths my opinion is that established pros like Lucas need not add to this us versus them mania.

I liked his reaction when they asked him about that in the post-round interview. He got pretty fired up about it so you know that is a huge goal for him.

I didn't get to see the round yesterday so I watched a replay of the back nine on Golf Channel. I'm shocked he was able to hold it together because his tank was definitely running low. He could have caved when he lost the lead but good for him for not letting that take him down. He didn't play very well but his putter saved him a number of times. His confidence in his new putter and stroke is really pulling him through. I hope he has another great week in Chicago!

From experience it is true. Got heat frustration. ( my term) once and took me a summer and a half to get. Over and my profession required me to be outside. Right now got heated last Thurs and Fri and seems like time I step outside I’m done

The evidence was how much he was sweating. The fluids were leaving his body faster than he could replenish them which is how you get dehydrated in the first place.
