53rd trip around the sun. I really want to celebrate my Mom. She was in labor for over 24hrs and I was almost a month late. She just turned 73 last month and my stubbornness robbed her of having a son with the same birthday. I am so thankful she raised me to be the man I am today.
Oh the things I put her through. I was a wild child. Dad bought me a motorcycle and a shotgun when I was 5 years old. I never looked back. If I wasn’t riding I was shooting or shooting and riding. I bought a street bike at 14 and paved their 1/4 mile long drive way with burnout marks. She’d clutch her chest every time she watched me jump or ride a wheelie.
She made sure I made it to football, baseball, and basketball practice and never complained once. I broke two ribs as a sophomore against Jonesville and it hurt me more to see her crying in the stands. Freak accident on a tackle. I shot the gap and dropped the running back for a four yard loss. I tried to suplex him and over rotated and his butt landed on my chest and bruised my lung.
She comforted me through many heartbreaks. She cheered me through so many triumphs. She gave me the kick in the butt I needed from time to time to remind me to do the right thing even when it was painful. She has remained my true north even when my wife of 25 years took over the job. Today I celebrate the woman who made me a man. Thank you, Mom for always being there.

Happy birthday! I couldn’t be happier for your mom to have a great son! My son is also a proud momma’s boy and made sure his wife knew it. Lucky for him they get along very well! Lol

She’s an amazing woman! She kept my Dad straight for 54 years of marriage so far. We just can’t get her to come to our tailgate and home games. She has maintained my Dad’s IPTAY membership since the 1970’s though!
