Fishing

I grew up as a tadpole fishing with my Pop who was an expert.
Moved to the Tugaloo in 2001 and bought a boat.
I was out every day as the Sun rose.

Ten years later I was blessed with the world's best fishing partner. Rosey and I were out most days.
When she passed on, being on the lake was kind of boring as "been there done that" alone a million times.

My boat is also a birding platform, seeing the lake birds is very exciting to me, maybe more than catching yet another fish. I use a 36v trolling motor and travel along the banks. I only use the outboard 5% of the time.

Since the fire have not been out. My boat is 24 years old, outboard needs work.

I don't need a boat these days (but I kinda do).
Spending thousands for a new boat -> can I get my $$'s worth from it?
One thing is I need it as a tug boat to move my dock in and out. I kinda feel like I need to do that to show neighbors I still can.

I can’t advise you on your boat, but I can say this. A boat, any boat, is good for the soul. Time spent at peace on the water is time well spent.

I kept a sail boat on the Chesapeake Bay for 25 years. Some of my most enjoyable times. It broke my heart to sell that boat when I moved away from the coast. But selling that money draining boat was probably the wisest thing I ever did. A Canadian Doctor bought it. He is probably broke by now.

You’re too young not to have a boat! I’m certain you can find one reasonable for your needs. Go boating! Good luck!

Had a boat and sold it. Got another boat and sold it. Now I'm ready for another boat.
Love the early mornings and late evenings on the water.

Talking about watching lake birds- youngest granddaughter was here yesterday and I had almost a whole loaf of stale bread and asked her if she wanted to throw it in the lake. Told her there probably wouldn’t be any fish like in warm weather but figured something would eat it. After covering the cove with it we came inside and couldn’t believe all the sea gulls that kept circling and landing in the water to eat it. Never seen that many at the beach .

Those seaguls spread the word quick***

Some people need a boat, but everyone “needs” a boat or to at least spend time on one.

Many of my most peaceful times have been on a boat. Nothing makes me feel more at ease than a salt marsh. Nothing makes me feel smaller than the vastness of the ocean. In that environment, my dependence on God is illustrated very well.

For me, there is no better place to reset.

And by the way, the pull of a 40” plus Red Drum just adds to the enjoyment.

I have 2000 Grady White with a 200 hp Yamaha, which still runs great, I bought in 2020. Fixed up the electronics added some conveniences. Have to rebuild the steering hydraulics before the season starts. My point is can you update the boat and get a new motor? That is what I would consider.

As a kid, I grew up fishing with my Dad in the salt water creeks and rivers around Johns Island. He had a 13’ fiberglass boat made by Renkin boat manufacturing in Charleston many years ago. Back then there were no license requirements or limits of any type for salt water. We did also go to the Santee Cooper lakes and the Ashepoo River occasionally to fish fresh water. As an adult I have always wanted a boat but the way I worked all my life I never could justify the expense given how infrequently I would have been able to use it. Now I live in the upstate and the problem is I have no where to put a boat when it is not in the water so I still want one but don’t have one. I play the lottery with the express goal of buying a boat if I ever win big enough. Every spring when the weather gets warm I revisit how I can get out on these water more. We have some friends that have a boat on Hartwell and we go with them maybe once a year is so. We also have been know to rent a boat for a day just so I can get my water fix. Hard for me to justify much more than that financially.
