Example of Cade's play that frustrates you to no end

Watch how wide open Antonio comes early from the top of the screen on the drag route across the middle. Cade has absolutely no pressure but still doesn't see it. Then, watch the beautiful adjustment Antonio makes to get wide open again and Cade doesn't see that either. As a result Cade ends up tucking the ball and running for a 2 yd gain. So, frustating.

Cade needs to continue to:

1) Get game experience.
2) Trust his coaches and the play calls (he's called his own number a few times)
3) See improvement at O Line (we can't get worse here, right)?
4) Have at least 75% of the 2 deep at WR stay healthy the whole year.

If 3 & 4 happen, I think we're going to see Cade get better with experience and the game will slow down for him. At that point, I think he'll trust the play calling more too and stop calling his own number.

in sports, and prioritizes accordingly to ensure that there is always legitimate competition at QB.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been doing that lately. We’ve had several underperforming QBs lately and no one to push them or take over if needed.

Right now, we have Cade who has been disappointing so far. Behind him, we have Vizzina who by all indications is not developing as hoped. We then have walk-ons after that.

This is when I find it maddening that Dabo hasn’t addressed this better through high school recruiting, the transfer portal, or both. No excuse for us to be in this situation.

Our backup and depth, that you say here we didn't have, and future starting QB Cade Klubnik came in and led us to a come-from-behind victory in that one to go to 8-0.

We were a CFP Top 4 in their first official ranking that year, and in it until the 1-pointer L to SCar.

Your troll talk of QB's not having someone to push 'lately' spanning years and the clear dig at leadership there is crap. CK2 'took over' in '22 to keep us undefeated in a game, then 'took over' to win the ACC league championship when the starter wasn't performing.

This 'nobody to push' QB is riding the nation's 3rd longest winning streak heading into next year.

Beyond that you're just regurgitating negative narratives du jour as normal.

That's bc the kid doesn't know where his receivers are supposed to be on the field with each play that is called. If he did, he would've seen how wide open Antonio was over the middle. That says a lot, and what it's saying is that Cade isn't studying our play film, and the QB coach isn't testing him by asking him questions about the plays in the play book. Every play we have in the play book shows the QB where receivers should be on the field with every play, and if the receiver isn't there, the problem is with the receiver and not the QB!!!

I agree on one thing, Dabo needs more on the field coaches bc Cade missing that play was simply bc he doesn't know the plays, and nobody is seeing to it that he does. Trevor knew where his receivers were 99% of the time, and if they weren't there it was the receivers fault, not Trevor's!!! Tajh Boyd was really good at knowing where his receivers should be at on the field!!!

There was a big cluster of linemen between him and Antonio on the first opening, Cade couldn't see over or through them.
In the second situation, Cade didn't anticipate Antonio's move to get open and he decided to tuck it and run at the exact same time Antonio made his break.

Faking handoffs to no one on several occasions. There was a designed dump off to Shipley last season where Cade forgot the play. Shipley is waiting for the ball while Cade is looking to pass downfield. Cade didn’t even notice that the WRs are setting up their blocks downfield.

This ain’t a video game the QB is trying to see past 10-12 giants half of whom are trying to kill him. Anyone can see an open receiver from the high sideline angle camera sitting on the couch. It takes an elite athlete to be able to process that info fast enough to make a play; Cade hasn’t done that often enough yet hopefully he can make a big step this year. But if you’re trying to say that should have been an easy read that anyone could make; it wasn’t.

Garret Riley made it very clear last year that he was backing off of wide receiver option routes because of the difficulty the QB and wideouts getting on the same page. So when the receiver modified his route it was in response to the defense crashing to the OL to defend the scrambling QB.

Weigh between 290 and 330 lbs are giants?
Did Cade and Antonio practice that as an option route (which Riley is only doing sparingly) or was that Williams free lancing?
It was a split second before Cade crosses the line of scrimmage and Williams breaks down field that he woulda had to make a throw. If he makes that play it’s an incredible play not an average one; The ability to make that play is what makes DW4 special.
If they’re not on the same page and the ball gets picked you’re the first person on tigernet calling him a bum.
Things look a lot easier from your barcolounger; I’m betting you couldn’t make that play on Madden.

Do all “10-12” players weigh 290-330???
If that’s the case no wonder Antonio was so open TWICE. Man cade can’t even throw on 300 pound defensive backs.

Well he didn’t throw the ball and didn’t get picked and I’m still calling him lousy. Not a bum but he’s bad at QB

Both teams had 4 offensive touchdowns, we also had 3FG's so much for that take because Cade led each of those drives. KY only got one pick in that game and we had one fumble (which cade also recovered), ky had 3 fumbles, 1 by their qb which we recovered along with 1 other but somehow our guy sucks and deserves no credit for 7 successful scoring drives? Yeah, I ain't buying it. The vegas guys had us pegged to win by 3.5pts and we got 3 of those with the "W". We had no defensive scoring but they absolutely did create the opportunity to score, they were great but it does not diminish our offenses work and certainly not CK's. Especially down by 5 points with 2 to go, he was a boss on that drive to grab that win.

That concerns me. Klubnik arrived with incredible skill sets and has not been developed. Cade owns some of it. And Dabo owns some of it, as he hired and then fired his QB Coach/OC and OL Coach. Here's hoping Cade and Riley get it worked out, and Riley's Offense (not the Clemson Offense) gets on track in 2024 after having to implement a new Offense and all new terminology in 2023. Coaches played so uptight and conservative last year, Klubnik often played more concerned with making a mistake than a big play.

jeesh, give it a rest. That was last year, one play. Want to show the ball bounce off Shipley's facemask, or the drops and more drops, or the fumbles, or the break downs in pass blocking?

That is the Miami game right?

3 plays, with 3 and change in the 3d,

1. 50 yard pass to Briningstool
2. Motion penalty on Briningstool, 1st and 15...
3. Cade lays a dime to Briningstool in the end zone, knee hit first ruled a TD

You want to show those plays too?

Clemson up 17-7 followed by what?

Miami 15 play drive end of the 3d qtr and start of the 4th was Cade's fault right?

Cade did not lose a single game on his own last year...

I would put the win vs Kentucky in the bowl largely on his leadership and skills down the shoot.

Oh wait let’s not forget about NOT handing the ball off to Shipley on 4th and Goal from inches.Cade kept the ball thinking he had any chance of running AROUND the defense when he’s slow as day getting going. He has no acceleration. The coaches called a straight hand off. Their whole reasoning for calling a straight handoff was to NOT give Cade the option to run or throw a screen (make a bad decision) just like he did in OT vs FSU. So what does Cade do? He goes out there with the game on the line and goes rogue AGAIN. Shipley would’ve scored and we would’ve been going for 2 to tie. These are inexcusable mistakes. He’s not gifted in anyway

That’s pretty rough. But it’s little things like that that I think Cade will improve on this year.

Been trying to tell yall. The issue isnt WRs

There are open receivers all day in Riley’s offense. It’s simply a matter of the QB being able ti execute the offense. Receivers aren’t the issue.

Hopefully we see something different this year. A full year of starting CK2s belt should pay some dividends this year. Idk what the leap looks like but it won't have to be much for us to be a 10 win team. Cut down on turnovers and hero ball for him and the OL getting better have us going to the CFP IMO.

At worst, Hebert arrives in January to make things interesting.

anything else is part of the game. They will make good plays and bad plays, but all of them are better than I can do.

I remember Trevor Lawrence didn't exactly fire out of a canon his first year, he had his share of headscratchers, but had ETN, Ross, Higgins, Rogers, and an Oline that could hold a pocket. He got much better his sophomore year, but the team took a step back when we lost Higgins and ETN, and we have been climbing back up that mountain since. There were a number of busts in recruiting when Scott left, and it eventually showed on the field. The last 2 cycles it seems we have been hitting on our recruits, and while Cade is may not be playing like his 5 star billing he does have the tools, elite speed and mobility for a QB, can make all the throws, and showed considerable improvement as a game manager as the season wore on and the running game improved.

True, but he still has a tendency to play "hero" ball and make boneheaded decisions when forcing throws, not seeing receivers, and not "feeling" pressure from the edges. That's the frustrating thing--all the tools are there, but he just can't put it together.

Cade has the same problem DJ had/has, they don’t process information fast enough. Elite Arm strength and mobility can cover up for it ( see Cam Newton early in his career when healthy).
Watch the long pass Trevor threw against A&M or the frozen rope at GA Tech for a TD from the far hash. The receivers were not wide open when the ball left Trevor’s hand but they were open when the ball got there.

Wayne Gretzky once said he was great not because he skated to where the puck was but because he skated to where the puck was going to be. Watson and Trevor were elite talents both physically and mentally. They had the ability to process information and react quickly as well. Have not seen much of the latter from our last two QBs with any consistency.

Pearman looked like the best QB in the Spring game because he got the ball out on time.

I do not think that is the issue with Cade, not for one second. And the issue with DJ was his mechanics, he could not get the ball out quick enough, and seemed to do his best work when improvising after a play broke down. Give Cade a pocket and some time to throw and he does just fine.

LOL Syracuse. (Thank you, Chase Brice)

Also, Lawrence, easily an all-time Clemson great had a string of interceptions his sophomore year, his 2nd as QB1 because they told him to 'throw more' and eventually it all came together for him. but this again was into his second year as qb1.

cade saved the 2022 Syracuse game and won the ACC Championship game in a huge way when dj would absolutely have lost it.

If I could give this 1,000 TU's, I would. I've been saying this for the last two years---for whatever reason, this kid just can't see the field. If you notice carefully, he's locked onto his primary target and isn't making his progressions. I'm not ready to call him a bust, but if we don't see improvement this year after 2 games, I say it's time to cut our losses on move on.

and I don't think experience will help that much. It's mostly innate.

It would be like trying to make me fast, or play the piano. Practice will make me better, but I will never be good at either.

Because his very first read was Stellato and his route was undercut by the safety...Once he saw that he ignored his other progressions in which he had time to roll through...panicked and took off...Thats called ZERO poise....

I dont know what else you people need to see to understand that this kid is not a good QB...He is an athletic DJ...Period.

So you spend time looking for bad plays on the QB to prove a point that Clemson has a bad decision making Quarterback.Give us a break and start your day on a positive note. I believe he will have a breakout year with a better OL and better receivers. So when he beats Georgia, are you going to give him credit or be a critic?

The most aggravating one that annoyed me was near the end of the Gator Bowl, when he had the Stool wide open for on a seam route over the middle and he just held it forever and by the time he threw it the entire secondary was there waiting on it.

I went to the bowl game with my brother. It’s so obvious what Cade’s deficiencies are when you watch in person. Hie eyes are bad and he simply can’t see the field.

I’m not sure that can be fixed.

Mostly I just want CK to pass quickly. If the OLine is improved this year that may not be as important, but last year whenever he had the ball after a three count back there I got worried.
