does anyone commute from greenville to clemson?

Feb 13, 2005, 10:29 PM

I've heard that the drive is not at all pleasant. I was thinking of living in greenville and going to grad school at clemson. any feedback would be great.

Take the back roads, 88 and 86. Makes the drive not quite as horrible. Anticipate a good hour drive unless you are really close to 123 or 85. I made the drive from Clemson to Greenville the last 6 months for a co-op.

Hey...I am interning in Greenville now so I make the drive from Clemson every day. After the first week, or once you get used to it, it goes fast. Not bad at all!

I did it for about 14 months

I lived in Clemson and worked on Pleasantburg Drive near Mcallister square. The drive never took more than 45 minutes, and was generally fine in the morning no matter what route I took. However, coming back you definitely want to go on 88/86 through Powdersville and do whatever you can to avoid 123. It shouldn't take more than 45 minutes each way, even during rush hour. It sounds like a long commute for South Carolinians, but it is pretty average in the northeast and west coast. It was worth it for me because Greenville is pretty much nothing to write home about, and I figured that if I was going to be working that close to Clemson after graduation I might as well live there too.

If you have been out of school more than 2 years though, you can just take all the same graduate Clemson classes at the Greenville extension campus and you don't have to drive all the way back.

yrs. It stinks but if you are only doing a couple of years for grad school...you can hack it. Avoiding grEasley is a good thing.
