Dabos close relationship

with Bakich and Brownell is pretty cool and as important as ever as they’ll share players on the court, diamond and football field. I wonder how many other successful D1 programs have succeeded with recent multi-sport athletes. We’ve seen multi-sport baseball/football players but I don’t think I recall many basketball/football players. Maybe Charlie Ward @ FSU…..

I believe Mike Eppley played both football and basketball. I believe Nuk played a little basketball as they were short handed but he was not a starter IIRC. Of course, Banks McFadden played both at a high level.

A question for the TNET “long timers” .. do you consider Mike at least to be a serviceable QB? He wasn’t highly touted and a lefty but, in the few times I did get the chance to see him play ..he seemed good enough at the time, and better than a more recent highly touted 5* ..

I think Eppley was more than serviceable. He ran the option well, threw well

I think it is great that our coaches seem to all get along and have good relationships which gives a good vibe to all. And yeah not too many successful FB/basketball players DHop was the last to try that I remember. Mike Eppley and Stan Rome both were very successful at it, but they played in the late 70's early 80's.

there have been some but season overlap some and required training for each is demanding so specialization in one is the norm. Hopkins helped in hoops and could have played but didnt really get game time unfortunately. He was a very good hoops player in HS and could have been a wr or corner in college so clearly a versatile athlete

Nuke Hopkins in recent memory was serviceable when needed in hoops also. Was on a team that made the NCAAT in his only season playing bkball.
