Clemson, SC—Clemson improved from 12th to fifth place on Friday during the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, KY. Play was halted for the third time in the late afternoon with all 15 teams still on the course. The second round will continue on Saturday morning.
Clemson golfers had finished between seven at 10 holes, while other teams had finished between five and 15 holes.
Clemson shot six-over-par 294 during Thursday’s first round, then shot nine-under par for its play on Friday. Clemson tied for the best round on the course on Friday when play was halted. North Carolina was also nine under par during its partial round on Friday. Clemson had 11 under-par holes (nine birdies and two eagles) on Friday after registering just 12 under-par holes for the entire round on Thursday.
Three Clemson golfers were three-under-par in the second round when play was halted on Friday. Thomas Higgins had four birdies and a bogey for his seven holes and was in a tie for eighth place in the individual race at -3 when play was halted. His round included a 27-foot putt for birdie on 11 and a 65-footer for birdie on 13.
Kian Rose was three-under-par for his seven holes on Friday, including an eagle two on the par four 14th hole. He drove the green on the 347-yard hole, then made the 12-foot eagle putt. It was his fifth eagle of the year and 10th of his career. Rose is in 17th place at -1 entering Saturday’s play.
Andrew Swanson was the third Tiger at three-under when play was stopped Friday, and the second to have an eagle. The senior from Bluffton, SC was three-under for his 10 holes, including an eagle three on the par five 11th hole when he made a 45-foot putt from off the green. Like Rose, it was his 10th eagle of his career. Swanson stood in 26th place at even par when play was halted.
Lucas Augustsson had two birdies and two bogeys for his eight holes on Friday and was in a tie for 32nd. Colin Salema was three-over-par for his nine holes on Friday.
Entering Saturday, North Carolina had the team lead at 14-under par and Virginia was second at -10. Wake Forest was third at -8 and California was fourth at -7. Clemson, SMU and Louisville were tied for fifth at three-under. Florida State, the highest ranked ACC team entering the tournament at #9, was eighth at one-over.
The Top eight teams will advance to the match play tournament that will determine the champion.
