..... but he isn't a next level coach. He can win the first 3 games of a tourney, he'll never be the coach that can win the last 3 games of a tourney.

Winning the 1st 3 games of the tournament would be GREAT!

Hard to blame this on Brownell. Our guys missed too many shots, settled for 3s, and got hosed by officials all night.

Can we blame Brownell for holding for 3s at the endTwice

Or is Chase ignoring him? He’s proven he can drive and make a shot or draw a foul, at 90% FT I’d take those odds. The one time he did drive at the end he was out of control and lost the ball. Even with a team this experienced we seem to play tight and afraid in end game situations. That to me is coaching

Even Jim B. was calling for Chase to drive it and not settle for the step-back 3. Horrible coaching down the stretch but classic Brownell.

All of this were bad, but just get a defensive rebound late in regulation and would have won the game.

No it isn't. If you understood basketball you could easily see the things that are not done, obviously not a part of practice. Every team has bad shooting days, night etc. This loss is on BB and the way he runs his team.

It's obvious to me, what he emphasizes at practice. I coached for 11 years. BB doesn't push blocking out on rebounds. His teams have ALWAYS not blocked out well. ALWAYS. Only years we rebounded well was because of great athletes, not a team concept. That lost the game last night.

Its obvious he's not pushing the facts that you must do that. I removed players from the game for not boxing out. Ever see Brad do that? Ever see a Brad team box out well?

Don't even worry about winning the Final, just making the Final 4 would be good enough for me.

This happens pretty much every year...with one or two notable exceptions over the past decade-and-a-half.

Put together a few good games, some people start crying about being "disrespected" and "we deserve to be ranked" and "we deserve to be in the NCAAT" and "how can our NET be so low!?"

Get ranked, immediately start a losing streak.

Lose to several teams we have no business losing to, by being out-coached, out-played (how many guys will have career nights vs Clemson?...seems like it happens EVERY GAME!), out-hustled, out-rebounded...proving that the lack of ranking, etc. was probably correct all along.

It remains to be seen whether this year will be one of the notable exceptions or see a reversion to the norm.

I for one continue to hope that CBB has, in fact, improved and that the last two years demonstrate the new Clemson basketball product, that we don't face an epic (but not *completely* unexpected) 3-5 game losing streak, that we make the NCAAT, that we win multiple games there. Forget about the ACCT, since we know CBB likes to rest the team by going one-and-done in the ACCT...he should just forfeit that first game and really get some rest.

I won't hold my breath though.

a good coach can coach fundamentals like rebounding, boxing out, this has hurt all year and no improvement has been made. his repeated end of game calls do not support that he is a good coach. he is a very good portal coach but nothing about his in game coaching says he is a good coach. we werent focused or ready last nite, we were looking ahead and ruined a chance to have a big week, that is on coaching as much as anything.

I've been up and down on Brownell. Currently, down. Just when you think they may actually have something, they lose to a mediocre (at best) team. That's the worst part of it. Beat GA Tech and then maybe losing to Duke is no sin. This loss could be a season killer. What quad is GA Tech? Great teams find a way to win even on an off night. After 14 seasons, with a team that has talent returning and picking up talent through the portal, I expect more. He's run out of excuses.

3 in a row and we are toast on the outside looking in dude? are you crazy? we dropped to an 8 seed after this crappy loss. that is bubble territory there, and another ### loss or 2 and we are out ! a bl.owout loss to Duke now will hurt also because of last nite.

I was just looking it up. We have 2 to play that are quad 1, Duke and SMU. Everyone else on the schedule is 2 or worse. We lost to a Quad3 team at home last night. The algorithm ain't gonna like that. I'm thinking now that if we don't win out on those "others" we're on the outside looking in.

last night's loss was huge in a world where your losses hurt more than your wins help.

We don’t have any big man depth. So we end up playing small ball way too much. A lot of poasters on this site were loudly critical of our football coach’s roster management about why we didn’t have a proven backup at RB when Mafah was hurting at the end of the season. What I see on this team as far as lacking big man depth looks very similar.

It appears to me that Chase is just absolutely horrible at executing this play at the end of a game or OT, especially when we only need 2 to win or tie.

The play is this: Spread four guys out on offense and give Chase the ball. At the 7 second mark (no later than 6), Chase drives the lane and the two forwards move to the basket. 6-7 seconds gives time to execute and maybe have a shot at a tip in if he misses.

One of two things will happen. (1) The defenders continue covering the forwards allowing Chase to take his man to the basket for a layup or short jumper (you can’t count on getting a foul called in that situation, not if you’re Clemson). 2. At least one defender leaves his man to double team Chase, leaving a forward open for Chase to dish off for the layup. Alternatively, you can have a forward or a guard outside the 3-point line for a pass & shot if 3 wins the game.

I’ve watched Clemson run this play a boatload of times this season. Inevitably, Chase waits too long to start it.

Against Memphis, he was a step away from midcourt in the center of the paw and didn’t start his drive to the basket until the 4.0 second mark. As a result, he had to throw up a fluky shot at the last second. Clemson loses.

In the next game against SC, he ran the play correctly. One defender faked a collapse but remained on the forward. The other defender collapsed on Chase, who recognized it and even dished to the right man. The forward (Shef, I think) just missed a contested layup. It happens, but it was the right play run correctly.

Last night, Chase waited until the 3.8 second mark to move towards the basket, then pulled up and shot the 3. It looked like he planned it all along when we only needed 2 to win. He screwed the play up twice as I recall.

I think Brad has a good plan. He needs someone who can execute it properly. Chase ain’t that guy, it would appear.
