more and more enjoyment out of the game for many fans. To add to it the officiating is getting worse. The more I read about pay for play football aka use to be college football, I feel like I should be reading the business section.
More and more players, recruits and parents are looking for dollar signs. These are sad times we live in. People have become so focused on money.
Recruits that use to be in Dabo’s back pocket are looking around for who is going to offer the most money. The really sad part is that many of these kids the decommitted from Clemson or just passed us by will regret it when that hit their 30’s as Tony Elliott talked about how important mold kids as a big part of their program. Tony talked about how important it was to build boys into solid men of character.
ETN’s younger brother would have really benefited by coming to Clemson.
I knew NIL and the money was going to have big negative impact on our football program. Fans can blame our decline on Dabo if that makes them feel better. Unfortunately it’s the money and TP along with unethical coaches that is the main cause in Clemson’s current struggles.
Even sports writers have talked about how all of these new changes have hurt Dabo’s program. Changes he has no control over. IMO 3 to 4 years ago when the started talking about NIL I felt it was a bad idea. In fact I posted back during that time NIL was a bad idea and that if NIL went into affect it would have negative influences on Clemson Football.
I think Dabos approach is most admirable; however, times have changed. We can call it unethical if we want but pay and the postal are not against the rules. You adjust with the times, play within the rules, or die. He can still build men and use all the tools available for the program to keep it competitive.
Do I think we can get back to the top and stay there with the current format? No. I dont think Clemson can afford it no matter what Dabo and Neff try to sell us. It doesn’t mean we can’t rise up every now and then though. I think there will eventually be a split between the have and the have nots. Clemson will have some tough decisions to make. I’d rather us stay as close to the student athlete model as possible (which I think is what the have nots will stick with).
