ACC or SEC?

Jun 10, 2010, 7:10 PM

Do you want academics? Do you want championship sports? Do you want big payouts to conference teams? These three questions can be answered in one move. Lets go back to 1981, the National Championship season, and what happened the following year. The NCAA put Clemson on probation for two years. The ACC added another year for no reason other than spite. They were jealous of what we had done, and that UNC couldn't get there themselves. We were cheated out of monies that could have helped the university that year. How many times have we looked at basketball games and said to ourselves,”This can't be happening!” when we get into foul trouble with those four NC teams? How many times has a recruit been told that they can play in the SEC(Football), and it cost us that recruit? We would be in the top 5 in academics in the SEC as our grades are show now. Think what a TV contract would look like with Clemson, FSU, Miami, and GT in the SEC. As hard as it to say, we are stuck in a tobacco road basketball conference. They, the big four, will always rule us. As far as championships, I think we can compete in many immediately. Our folks need to get this done.

The SEC is too competitive for its own good. It certainly would be if it added FSU, Miami, and GT to the east. Do you want have to be better than Florida, Miami, FSU, Georgia, and GT just to get to the conference championship game?

Ideally we should try to keep the ACC together and add 4 good programs. Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, and Rutgers/West Virginia would make the 16 team ACC the best in basketball by far plus be still be good enough in football to be one of the 4 16-team superconferences. It wouldn't be so competitive that Clemson would have to be a national championship-type team to win it.

That type of attitude won't get us a national championship***

The whining never ceases to amaze me Justin

Now we all are aware, if you listen to any CU supporter long enough, that the ONLY reason Clemson has ever lost an ACC game in any sport is because of the conspiracy starting in the ACC office to make sure that CU's true greatness is not unleashed. Give me a break. You've been off probation for twenty five years now. And had some decent teams since Danny Ford left. And he left under a cloud. Why do you think they went and made the horrible mistake of going out and hiring the squeky clean Ken Hatfield. But you have not been on probation for 25 years. Bottom line is that you don't really want to be in the SEC as much as you would like to think of snubbing your noses at the ACC. Why? Because you would be in exactly the same position USC finds themselves. A pretty decent football program frustrated that you can't do any better than 7-5 or so being in a conference with those elite teams. Maybe every so often you would win 8. And every so often 6. But you don't want to go there. Playing Florida and Alabama at home, back to back sounds great. But it ain't the same as Maryland and Wake.
